Re: Bottle Priming with Sugar
I use a priming sugar calculator (then ignore the result and decide on a lower amount ). I had 35 ltr to bottle last Saturday so I calculated the amount of sugar for 40 ltr and made that up to 400ml with boiling water. The extra solution means no chance of running out if some bottles get a gen...

It's hard not to think that the flavour also suffers, although I've no way of testing this for certain. Some may slag off exbeeriments but he does way more investigating/testing than I do. My sense of taste/smell has got worse over the years so feel free to send me your six-month old stale grain.

Re: Fermentation Fridge Heater... I'm done with Tube Heaters!
Many years ago I got their 32265 model which is on clearance. I was thinking of using an incandescent bulb under a plastic hood (ice-cream container?) to protect against drips but decided that was too much faff.Dennis King wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 12:31 amI bought one from toolstation at least 10 years ago still going strong

Re: What co2 source do you use?
When I used cornies I purged after filling, which seemed to be standard practise. Though I see if you are aiming for total elimination of contact with air then purging before filling makes sense. However I feel that there are diminishing returns here and double-blind testing would show it wasn't wor...

They're the instructions. https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/servomyces-yeast-nutrient/ Homebrew notes: Add by breaking open 1 capsule and pouring the supplement in 10 minutes prior to the end of the boil. OR, if your fermentation does not require a boil, open the capsule and pour in the suppl...

Re: Aerator paddle?
Lallemand say their Nottingham Dried Yeast doesn't need aerating so I'll reserve the splashy bit for when I'm using (e.g.) a Proper Job starter.

Re: Dry yeast reuse
When Brew Lab was selling slants their instruction page said to load the slant straight into just 500ml of wort to make the starter for a 40 pint brew. The received wisdom would be to step up, finishing at 1000ml minimum. I assumed they knew their stuff and their yeast was super-healthy. Your yeast ...

I reach across the lid and pull it up at the indent with as many fingers as I can fit, at the same time pushing down on the lid with my thumbs to bend the lid sharply back.

Advertised as a waste container rather than food safe. E.g. I believe stuff made from recycled plastic could include something that once stored a toxic substance that could leach out, manufacturers can't know. Malt Miller has a 60 litre FV for £25.

Rust?
Perhaps wort doesn't have the same effect as water and/or the exposed components are of the same grade steel. Ask a chemist.
