Re: golden syrup in brewing

Hi All There's been a couple of comments in this thread about simple sugars increasing the overall fermentability of the wort :? ... however, there's mention in the White & Zainasheff, "Yeast" book (which I don't have with me, at the minute, so I won't quote), which is repeated/referenced in the BYO...

Re: Good Base for Honey Beer?

Hi fego and Chivelegs I did hear someone using a particular hop that gives a honey flavour but I haven't tried that and can't remember what hop it is either, but that might be worth looking into to enhance the real stuff. ... I'm pretty sure the hop to use is Target, late in the boil ... ideally use...

Hi Kev, Not sure if theres a slight misunderstanding of things here. ... no, Graham does indeed recommend (insist even) that ALL beer should be bulk matured in cask before consumption or bottling :? ... Mumbler put the effort into typing out a quote over there (link) :? Hi Meaty, personally I've alw...

Re: 1800s IPA aging question

Hi Jocky The 2014 Magma had three types of Brett added, and honestly it was like someone had a Belgian Tripel mixed with some slightly sour tropical fruit juice. ... if that experience leaves you unsure about whether you should put Brett in your beer ... and I'll admit that similar experiences (and ...

Re: Can I Steep Chateau Crystal?

Hi Adrian There's a "Contact Us" button on that website that IPA pointed at ... you're a customer of their products looking for clarification on how to use them (and get the best out of them), so I can't imagine any reason why they wouldn't get back in touch, if you were to ask them your "mash vs st...

Hi E.J. I'm a bit late to this, but Well Done on your first AG =D> ... and thank you for the "mention" at the top of the thread. I'm really pleased that there're still people out there getting benefit from that post (that I made nearly 3 and a half years ago now  ) Alex and/or Meatymc,...

Re: British Wheat Ale?

Hi Fingar If you have the Szamatulskis' Clone Brews book there is a recipe for a Dark Wheat Beer by Salopian Brewing Company called "Answer" ... now, I must admit that I never tasted the original (and I believe Salopian discontinued it quite some time ago) but I have made a version and really enjoye...

Hi shuggie I don't know what the SHC of grain is, but wrt the calculations (assuming the figures you have are correct, for now) ... If grain has a specific heat capacity of 1.84 J/gm.K and copper is 0.386 J/gm.K (please guys correct me, there is little info on SHC of grain) For say a 4 kg grain bill...

Hi sbond I don't know about how intense/concentrated that Cupcake World branded flavouring is ... but I made a Sweet Blackberry Stout last October (basically a Ditch's, but with 250g Lactose sugar instead of a mug of raw-cane ... then with 1kg Blackberries (frozen, thawed and liquidised) added as "d...

Hi sbond Would it not suit then ... I think that depends on what you mean by "an American inspired rye beer" :? ... if you mean something like a roggenbier, but with those American hops, then you probably could ... but if your talking about an American Rye (I)PA. then probably not ... have a look at...

Re: Hops - when???

Hi Meaty I'd suggest that, when no-chilling, do your post boil steep steps AFTER you've got your wort out of your cube ... put a few litres of your wort into a pan and bring it back to the boil ... meanwhile, put the rest of the wort from your cube into your sterilised FV ... make a hop-tea with the...

Re: Heating and Cooling the wort

Hi WA Like Meaty says, you can get your wort to pitching temp in the cube by putting it in your brewfridge (or anywhere else at (around) the right temperature) and waiting  ... and the cube can be very useful in trying out all those other "pitching temperature strategies" that you've heard abo...
