Re: What a nonce!

All you can do is keep an eye on them. It is an early variety so you may be OK.

Re: HF Hops

So are these pellet or whole hop? Website doesn't state. Shipping cost isn't obvious before you check out. TBH you've fallen at the first hurdle and I don't think you've endeared anyone here to your services.

Kent Green Hop Festival 2017

Just a reminder that this is only 5 weeks away. For all you lovers of Green Hop beers, you'll be able to find around 40 different beers from the great brewers of Kent plus a couple of guest appearances from neighbouring counties. Come and say hello as I'll be serving behind the bar on Saturday and S...

Re: HF Hops

Excellent idea. But you're still more expensive than Farams who will happily sell 5kg to homebrewers. Is your shipping a lot cheaper to counter that? As it needs to be.

So if you can get stuff they can't can I have some El Dorado?

Re: Hop Growing 2017

I'm actually surprised a reputable firm like this are selling bare root at this time of year. They obviously had over stock of the variety. I agree with everything WD has already said. Planting out is November/December for cuttings taken in the Spring of the same year, which would be strong enough t...

Re: Hop Growing 2017

if you can only go to 3m then choose dwarf varieties (First Gold is very popular), otherwise you'll need 5-6m. Growing against the house is not to be advised. They suffer massively from windburn and heat from the brickwork. They are OK growing along fences but need a lot of training.

Re: Topping Up Fermenter

Not to be recommended unless your OG was higher than required. And even then I always add my liquoring back to the cooling wort in the copper. If you are under volume it is better to just live with it.

Re: liquoring back - Good, bad, indifferent?

You just need to get used to your losses in the boil. Liquoring back is the easy option, if you are under OG then it's best to put up with it. As Kev said it will end up being a much drier tasting beer if you add additional sugars. And this is a much more tricky calculation to make. Liquoring back i...

Re: Cloudiness when opening

Notty usually compacts well. I can only suggest that with the higher than expected FG they are over carbonated. Bit late I know as you have already bottled but Notty can finish as low as 1006. Try and make sure they are well chilled (6-8C) before serving as this will help.

Re: Harsh bitter Taste at end of flavour profile

Greensand is, as you say Eric, a fine water to brew with. Surrey Hills Brewery and more locally (to me) Westerham brewery are able to tap into it. Fremlins in Maidstone used 2 different wells for brewing. From my research into the brewery the well called Boarley was brewing quality, whilst Cossingto...

Re: Hop Growing 2017

I lost the 2 lead bine heads on my 1st year Cascade during the recent high winds - my fault as I hadn't gotten around to 'wiring' it up and it had outgrown the cane it was on and was flappinmg about. Wired it up properly like my Fuggles (1st Year) (Prima Donna and Northdown - both 2nd year, trainin...

Re: Grow Your Own Beer

Hmmm... looking at the fragility of the plants they are grown from seed, so whether or not you actually get a female is 50/50. If you want a proper plant then only purchase from reputable growers. :(

It looks more like bruising, are they close to anything that they can hit if its windy? If in doubt just removed the affected leaves and keep an eye on the rest of the bine.

Wonkey, that plant should be outside. It wants to go up and you're restricting it.
