Re: Festival Landlords Finest Bitter

Out of interest I have just looked at the price of the MM Landlord clone. Also £26. That seems an incredible price for 25 litres of beer. The biggest chunk is obviously the yeast. I have been using White labs 037 west Yorkshire strain that I bought 10 years ago. I have three samples in my yeast coll...

Re: "No-Chill" Cubes

The obvious answer is if you don't enjoy spending six hours brewing give up and buy commercial beer.
Brew day for me is six hours start to finish. With the resulting 57 litres chilled and pitched.

With Beer engine just enter volume and gravity. Add the ingredients as percentages and hey presto it will give you the weights as well.

I've got two of them for controlling fermentation. The probe is in a thermowell and they control the temperature to within+/- 0.5 °C

Re: Moldy taste from Beer Engine does not go away

Is this the case with more than one keg? Or have you only tried it with one. The reason I am asking is that for the first time ever I had a keg that has an earthy/mouldy taste. I brew 57 litre batches and fill three cornies. This time two tasted fine and one had this taste. All the the kegs were san...

Re: Where is the thin bleach? and what can I use instead?

This is the best and the cheapest cleaner/sanitiser money can buy. One teaspoon(5gr) per 25 litres is the dose.that makes 5000 litres for £13 https://swimmingpoolchemicals.co.uk/chlorine-shock-calcium-hypochlorite-granules-1kg.html Doesn't sound like it stores well: - "We recommend that you only bu...

Re: Shepherd Neame Kentish Strong Ale

The usage of imperial units drives me mad. America signed the metric conversion act more than fifty years ago and nothing has changed. It's even worse because they are still using imperial units that date back to Queen Anne. It's a bit like British expats here in France who still use yards on the go...

Re: Shepherd Neame Kentish Strong Ale

I was given a bottle of Shepherd Neame "Kentish Strong Ale", and - Wow! Loved it, and would like to brew something like it. Does anyone have an AG recipe which might come close? I've brewed lots of ales over the years, both English style and American, but there was a flavour in the SN that I just c...

Re: Shepherd Neame Kentish Strong Ale

It's all in the yeast. Brew lab have it. I sent it to them a few years ago. I have a recipe for their Spitfire and if you brewed that to the required gravity for "Kentish Strong Ale" am certain that it would be very similar. The yeast sample that I sent to BrewLab came from a 1977 bottle of Silver ...

Re: Re-using yeast: floculation issue

Jon B My beers do not need gelatine fining . The issue I am having is the yeast is no longer behaving correctly and is jumping back into suspension mid-pour, IPA They do if only to prevent the deposited yeast entering the glass. Which seems to be your problem. If it's not there it cannot be disturbed...
