Re: What's going on?

I'd give it a rouse and take another reading in the morning. Sound advice Eric. Still no visible signs of activity but we're down to 1015 so dropped another 5 points overnight. Given this is brew 102 I thought I'd a handle on what I'm doing but clearly, from whatever combination of events, things h...

Re: What's going on?

What yeast are you using? This one was only a 2nd generation scavenge from a CML5 - Cross My Loof in Glasgows SO5 take-off. Theirs certainly doesn't behave anywhere near as vigorously as a true SO5 but I've had some good recent results from theirs including a Mosaic IPA that is frankly the best bee...

Re: What's going on?

Cheers Eric. I did give it a damned good talking to this morning so will check again tomorrow. Don't normally bother checking the fermenter until at least the end of week 1 but was bottling up[ a previous 'scavenge' and could see through the plastic all didn't seem well. Just thinking over process e...

What's going on?

Did my standard IPA recipe on Monday (the advantage of working from home!) pitching a 1.5L starter using a scavenged yeast at tea-time. Starter/Scavenge also standard procedure. Krausen was up by 7am yesterday although pretty this as you might expect. Another 24 hours later it's gone completely othe...

Re: Crown capper?

Bench capper exactly as shown in the link but mine says Ferrari - I kid you not! Just bottled brew number 101 so best part of 4,000 capped bottles without an issue. You do need to add some 'padding' every now and again for odd size bottles but I have a couple of squares of cardboard that do the tric...

Re: Priming with brewing sugar

Hi all I am priming my beer with brewing sugar in the fermenter before bottling for the first time and want to know how much to use to get a good carbonation in 23ltr. PS I am using plastic bottles Many thanks Bedders I brew mainly hoppy IPA's (currently on brew 97) and only bottle - ending up with...

Re: Replacement tap for Eurocamping Burner

Just to close this off - seeing 420 people have read the post, ended up contacting the Italian manufacturers who gave me a contact in the UK. Suffice to say the UK company didn't bother replying to phone call or emails but who knows how they have been affected with lockdowns etc - hence not fair rub...

Re: What size fermentation bin?

I wouldn't rely on the manufacturers volume marks on a plastic fermenter - always found them to be way out. As already said, pour in 5 L and mark it off yourself.

Replacement tap for Eurocamping Burner

Spent many a cold hour rearranging the garage so the missus could get her (beloved) convertible mini out of the snow/frost. All went well until I tried to be too clever in showing what an easy fit it was and hit my burner snapping off the tap. Bad enough running short of stock due to Xmas but now ca...

Re: Suggestions for my 100th All-grain Brew

Hi, my 100th brew was this: Cheers Charlie I was actually in on this when trying to find something to use up last years crop of Cascade but think I didn't follow it through. I'm just fermenting out a simple bitter with Cascade just to get a feel for bittering levels so yours is defo back in the fra...

Re: Suggestions for my 100th All-grain Brew

Thanks for your input. I wasn't intending brewing over Xmas/New Year as we normally have a house full - not happening this year obviously! I've decided the best way to go about this is determine what my home grown hops can do on their own. Always use them for bittering but I dry hop quite heavily wh...

Re: Suggestions for my 100th All-grain Brew

As it happens I’m brewing a De Ranke XX Bitter clone this weekend which might be appropriate. Or if you want push the boat out, you could brew their XxX super charged version Thanks Pete - another beer I haven't heard of. Just been on their web site and like the comment about the XX Bitter - 'low i...

Re: Suggestions for my 100th All-grain Brew

I thought my go to ales would be something like a TT landlord and pedigree. Whilst drinkable, attempts haven’t been that close to the original. Back to your question, I would try Mad Boris Russian Imperial Stout, from James Morton’s book. Cheers KF. Brought up in a small village with two pubs - one...
