Re: Lager Brewday

James, It made me laugh when I posted it. :D English version... `Did you drop it on the floor`? Welsh version...`Dropped it on the floor did you`? That came out as the way I speak and it sounded too Welshy. :D :D Try saying the Welsh version with a Welsh Accent and you will sound like a person from...

How did it turn out? :)
If you mean my Kölsch, then it turned out great. Very happy with the results. It’s long gone now mind, especially with that hot summer we had.

Re: 25li Bulk LME

I’ve found that LME can finish a little sweeter than a typical AG batch. Did you find this? I’ve heard people mention using some sugar to help dry it out and reach the desired FG. I’m about to do an extract brew myself in the coming week or so, just because of time constraints (and not having unpack...

Thanks guys, I guess some experimentation is in order. I’ll take a pint out and split it just to see what happens.
Will try 4g in the fermenter and chill as well.

Cheers
You’ll need a syringe that will measure out tiny volumes of liquid. At 3ml/20L dosage you will only need 0.15ml for 1L.

Re: Brausol finings

I’ve always just put it in the FV and mixed it up a little bit. Everything will drop out again after a few days of chilling with the finings added. I then rack off to a bottling bucket when it’s time. I think I just used 3-4g in my last 20’ish litre batches. I never did trials at varying doses, but ...

Re: Flameout additions.

Isomerisation occurs above 64C, so if you’re not wanting bitterness from late additions you need to bear this in mind. However, in practice the utilisation when steeping at ‘flameout’ is probably only around 5%. At work we steep for 30 minutes, but then it also takes around an hour to cast to FV, so...

Re: Induction Hobs

The CE208 is the model most people use as it was the first one they made. I use mine for heating my HLT. The CP799 is slightly bigger and has a digital control panel (the original has a manual dial). It has less control over the power settings (10 in total) of the original unit. But both are 3kW so...

Re: Induction Hobs

I'm making the move towards induction hobs on my new setup but have hit a query regarding which model is most suitable... Buffalo make a 3000W hob (model CE208) and a Heavy Duty 3000W Hob (CP799). I'll be using these with 10 USg/35l pots. What would be really useful to me is first hand experience u...

Re: Adding Water After Fermentation!

If I was going to liquor back post-fermentation, then bottled water would be my choice. For simplicity it appears to be a reasonable work around, just doesn't deal with the pH issue. Not a problem if the Beer is going to be consumed quickly as there will be less time for spoilage to occur. More of ...

Is the Fullers yeast strain not available anywhere? I’d imagine Brewlab have it if either Whitelabs or Wyeast don’t.

Re: How long for hops/yeast to clear in fermentation bucket?

It depends on the yeast if the beer will naturally drop bright with time. Some yeasts just don’t want to clear. If you WANT clear beer, then adding finings is a easy and simple way to do this (combined with crash cooling).

Re: Steel electric brewing kettles

I got a good deal on a 3kW Buffalo induction hob about a year ago and have never looked back. The advantage over an element in the kettle is that it can be used in various ways, so you’re not just stuck with the one solution (as with an element). Plus, the induction job has built-in heat control so ...
