Re: No yeast slurry in Conical fermenter
002 is the most solid clumper I've used too. 007 comes a respectable 2nd.

Re: Something like an APA
I meant to type "can't" imagine it lacking flavour... not "can"... Sorry! Edited.

Re: Something like an APA
Sounds like it's gone to plan. From the colour, I can't imagine it lacking flavour, but I guess that getting your perfect balance of hops, malt and yeast esters may take another go or two. If it's too 'clean' first time out, that still sounds like a result to me!

Re: Stockpots as fermenters?
Yes, fingers crossed! Thank to you and all for talking these through a bit. I will report back. I think these are just mash/brew kettles/tea urns being re-purposed as FVs by Klarstein, hence there being two oddly similar sizes in their range, and the odd title of "Maischfest Fermenter 25 Mash Kettle...

Re: Stockpots as fermenters?
OK - I've ordered the 25L Klarstein version. The reason for this is that the 30L model does not have volume markings, and by my calculations on the internal measurements they give, is only 2.8L bigger; I noticed that the 'Max' mark on the 30L looked higher up than the 25L line on the 25L version, an...

Re: Stockpots as fermenters?
All helpful, cheers. Currently taking a hard look at the Klarstein 30L at £120, especially as I SHOULD get £10 off for subscribing to their newsletter 2 days ago, though there's no sign of a voucher yet. The 30L doesn't seem to have volume markings (other than 'Max'), whereas the 25L does. The 25L ...

OK
Anyone know anything about these Polsinelli ones? £90 shipped to the UK, or 20 euros more to include handles. I'd want to know a hose will fit on that tap, but other than that...

Re: Stockpots as fermenters?
Pick one of these up and put a standard Ball valve on it, you'll need a couple of clamps and a blow off for the lid https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-2-DN15-Sanitary-Male-Threaded-Ferrule-Pipe-Fits-Tri-Clamp-Type-SUS-SS-316-UK/253777609209?hash=item3b165301f9:g:3oEAAOxy4YdTWg2x:rk:21:pf:0 https://www.eb...

Re: Stockpots as fermenters?
This is part of tightening up sanitation and handling during fermentation onward. I'm pretty confident in my hot side stuff, water treatment, mash/sparge etc, and in everything up to and including pitching healthy yeast. Having to replace buckets again is also a prompt. I've had a couple of off flav...

Re: Stockpots as fermenters?
Thank you for explaining. This is getting a bit pricey though. Sounds like we're talking over double the cost of a basic stock pot and ball valve, for the benefit of a sealing lid and threadless connections. I've emailed to see, anyway. It doesn't sound like the price points are quite where I want t...

Re: Stockpots as fermenters?
Brilliant replies, thanks. I've got a green light from SWMBO for this :pink: and may be able to push to the flat bottomed sealed lid job. [-o< I've been fermenting in one way or another around a quarter of a century, and I've been very restrained on equipment this far! By butterfly valves, are we ta...

Stockpots as fermenters?
Just a quick check... Any issues with basic stockpots with 2 or 3 piece ball valves at the bottom as FVs? I'm seriously considering making a small step up from plastic buckets, after many years. I'm prioritising stainless steel over getting a plastic conical or anything more fancy. Looks like job do...

Re: Mangrove Jacks Belgians: M31 and M41. Any views?
Update after 14 days: it went from 1.068 to 1.019 in under 3 days and down to 1.006 today, where it seems to have stopped. That's 91% apparent attenuation by my maths! It smells absolutely spot on, banana/caramel sort of aroma. I've noticed more of a tart greenness to the taste though, as the last f...
Re: Gervin
Only time I've repitched at that sort of gravity, I got the us05 going in a small starter first, to get it used to the environment. (I don't to that at the start.) If anything, I'd put more in rather than less at this stage, but fingers crossed. That was a big beer, in which the wlp540 flaked out. A...
Re: Gervin
Good old Boyes's's's! I'd ignored the roasted wheat, seeing that you had the same in the pale brew. Never used it, though I'd think it's just slightly lower for extract and needs to be in with plenty of other diastatic grains (which I assume it was). Looks like Northallerton water is slightly higher...
