Re: Black Forest stout idea

Planning on adding thi cherry vodka liquor tonight and have been googling fruit additions. The consensus is that cherry is quite mild when added to beer. Folk are talking about adding 5, 6, 7 or more pounds of cherries into 5 gallon bathes! So, I think I might up the cherry addition for this. The ba...

Re: Black Forest stout idea

You reckon that’s too too much? Could always just purée it and then add less of the liquid into the DJ. Hmm ... making it up as I go along! Lol.

Re: Black Forest stout idea

I stuck 200g of frozen cherries into a jar tonight and covered them with vodka. I never really thought much of it, but afterwards I realised it’s probably about 100ml of vodka or so. Maybe a touch more. Anyone reckon that might be way too much to add to my demijohn? I suppose it would work out at ab...

Black Forest stout idea

The grains were just crushed pale malt. I’d bought them to make an ale, and I didn’t have anything else. So I steeped 50g just for a bit of extra body. Is 50g enough? I wasn’t sure at all. I thought about using cacao nibs. I thought I already had some, cause I used to make tea with them, but when I ...

Black Forest stout idea

I was going to make a start on that apple IPA idea I had last week, but then read something online about hop pellets deteriorating after the packets have been opened, so I decided to use up some Saaz that I had in the freezer, so dreamt up this after seeing something on TV about the 1970s and how Bl...

Re: Simple Cheap and Tasty, Raspberryade

I bottled this framboise attempt tonight. FG - 1.006, so about 7.7%. It’s really clear and a lovely red colour, much like the raspberryade. Medium sweet/dry, but I don’t think it’s wheaty or hoppy enough, and the body is too light, quite like an alcopop. Tastes quite boozy too. I got 11x 330ml bottl...

Re: Apple IPA

Thanks for the heads up, WA! What did it taste like? I’ve tried hopped cider before, and also that “Bootlegger Prohibition Apple Beer” (which was just like boozy appletizer), so I was just hoping for something like that but with a bit more body and head. Still, like it’s been said, I’m only doing 4....

Re: Apple IPA

Oh help! Oh no! It’s the ... Graffalo! Man, these beer names jut keep a-comin to me! You heard it here first, people! lol. Oh, aye. I never thought of snakebite. I used to quite enjoy that too. Or “diesel”, when you add a bit of blackcurrant cordial to it. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180815/8...

Apple IPA

Right, I basically came up with a cool name for a would-be Apple beer, which has inspired me to make one. I’m thinking some kind of IPA using apple juice. I’m thinking ... 1 gallon 3 litres Apple juice 500g light spraymalt 7g Citra @ 30mins 14g Citra @ 0mins 14g Mosaic @ 0 mins Add an extra 1.5 litr...

Re: Post-boil hops

Does anyone use anything like these empty paper or PET tea bags,?designed for use with loose tea, for making “hop tea bags”? I’m considering buying some to try, but I don’t know if the paper will just disintegrate if left boiling or dry hopping for too long, or if the paper will impart any flavour. ...

Re: My First try at Mead.......

How do you use the pectin?

I was planning on following this pretty simple recipe that I found, here...

Re: Mango IPA

I take it I can just divide that recipe by 3 in order to make a 5 litre batch? I do t have a pot big enough for 15 litres! Lucky if I can fit 5l into my biggest pot.

It might be easier if I just got an IPA kit and dump some of this mango purée into it [emoji848]
