Re: Ghost ship clone (BIAB)

Who would do such a thing as sneaking the real Ghost Ship into a Brew Club competition?

Re: Adnams Southwold Bitter

Norwich Amateur Brewers have a very good relationship with Adnams and in the last few years (Covid permitting) we have had what we call the Adnams Challenge, this years was Broadside. Fergus and Dan have been very generous by telling us the recipe for the Beers we have brewed and allowed us their fr...

Re: King Keg top or bottom tap preferred?

I preferred my bottom tap. When I was buying them, a very long time ag, there was talk of top taps occasionally losing the floating dip tube connection. Nightmare if that happened. The only reason was to take beer off as it cleared. Tempting but better to fine and let it condition until it's really ...

Re: Scoby one-kenobi - kombucha brew day

How well does it work in hornet traps? :D We are plagued by them in summer :=P Well, you have proper summers, we don't, so I wouldn't know. What's a Hornet? :D It's like a Cornet. only it's tuned to a much higher frequency! Guy Love a Cornet me, can't stand those horrible cone things you get ice cr...

Re: Scoby one-kenobi - kombucha brew day

Interesting thread, didn't know about it. I started in the autumn of last year, as I had a poor year for apples so was not going to have apple juice to drink with breakfast. Plus, I had got very interested in the Zoe studies and their approach to gut health and how important fermented "food" was to ...

Re: Pure O2 Equipment

After use I drop it into warm water and continue to run some O2 through to "blow" out wort that is lodged in it. On brewday it will go into my usual cleaning solution and end up soaking in Peracetic before use.

Re: Yeast Cropping Advice

Very diplomatic Eric. Not my intention, Orlando. I found some White Labs and Wyeast were not necessarily what was thought. There likely is some provenance in all these packages, but the processes used growing these products can well result in refinement, mutation and unrealised biological change. B...

This clearly shows the different levels in a fermentor after racking a beer fermented with a real British top fermenting yeast. I'm not saying that American supposed British yeasts are fake, just that they might not be as we tend to assume.

Re: Yeast Cropping Advice

Top cropped yeast is certainly the freshest and most vigorous you can harvest but you have answered your own question really. Received wisdom is to skim the first yeast bloom that appears, as it often has hop resin attached to it and some trub too. It's the next layer thrown up by the yeast you real...
