Re: Water Analysis at Murphy and sons

It often comes as quite a surprise that brewers treat some liquor in a brew differently. The explanation for this is that some grains are more acidifying in the mash than others. Typically dark Beers contain grains that are very effective in doing this. If the brewer treats all the liquor the same, ...

Reading a lot in American forums can build up some anxiety in a newby brewer. Maybe I should stop consulting them altogether...

Re: Hog's Back T.E.A. Clone - Beginner's Questions

Kegging a Ringwood beer this moment actually, pitched Sunday and 4 days later tastes amazing. It is still fermenting so it will finish in the keg. I get much better tasting results this way then letting finish and adding sugar. TBH I didn’t do anything special that I wouldn’t do with any liquid yea...

Re: Hog's Back T.E.A. Clone - Beginner's Questions

I am not sure if I got my English mixed up there. What I wanted to ask is this: Since I cannot get my hands on the Hook Norton yeast, someone suggested to use WhiteLabs „Dry English Ale“ instead. Is that a sound suggestion leading in the right direction? It's worth trying. The dried yeast that woul...

NB: I would still be interested to know if substituting WhiteLabs WLP007 "Dry English Ale" yeast for the Hook Norton yeast (as someone suggested) is the right direction or totally off...

Re: Hog's Back T.E.A. Clone - Beginner's Questions

I am not intending to achieve an exact clone. My sole aim is to produce something similar to Hog's Back T.E.A., That is a realistic approach. The chances of a true clone are remote, because I believe, and it is only a belief, that scale is a factor. But, the most important reason is that without th...

Sadly, I have failed to find a homebrew club anywhere near in Derby, would love to learn rapidly as suggested above with others more experienced.

Re: Lessons Learned

Jocky nails it. Join a home brew club. Everyone that has joined the one I'm in in the last year has learned more in that year than I learned in my first 5 years of brewing. You also get to taste a lot of different Beer and can soon compare and receive feedback on your own efforts. As for your list, ...

Look in the tools section Graham's Beer Engine and water treatment calculator are major contributions (under JBK Links). He also replied to many posts so will be interesting to know what has happened to them.
