Re: simple water treatment.

I managed to get from my water supplier the range of figures they get for for a testing period so I could get some idea of my water profile over time. As you can see they are all over the place. This water comes from Severn Trent. This is the results of their latest testing period. 01/01/2013 – 30/0...

Re: Sloe Gin a Couple of Questions

Put in less sugar, you can always put more in later but you can't take it out.
I always found that recipes tend to have too much sugar and put in less myself.

Re: Northern Brewer pellets?

I know a lot of people seem to slate Target hops but have you tried them instead of N.Brewer, I have used Target pellets for bittering and dry hopping to great success (in my opinion!).
Readily avaliable as pellets.

Same here, had the above taps on my old cool box mash tun and still got one on my boiler and been fine for years.

Re: Bottling time taking too long !

What you need are the old fashioned screw top quart bottles. I can get 80 pints bottled and cleaned up in under an hour.
Rinse out when finished with them, a squirt of starsan and they are ready for next time

Re: Lager with Notty

I made had my stab at a imitation 5% ABV lager using 97% pale malt and 3% flaked rice, Saaz and Hallertauer hersbrucker for the hops. Used Gervin (Nottingham) English Ale Yeast and just fermented as normal. Turned out very good, several lager drinking friends approved of it.

Re: Gloucester water treatment

If your water comes from the Mythe I got the following information from Severn Trent a couple of years ago. Severn Trent..Cheltenham South...Water Supply Zone ZGL09 I live near Stroud with a GL10 post code so hope they can be of use to anyone else in the area. These figures are in response to my ema...

Re: Hop filter

I have a freezer full of pellets I need to use so I don't think that would work Martin, I had considered the same thing myself and for whole hops you're right, it would work a treat but pellets would go straight through =/ Aye, might be time to look at the deller style ones Belter.... Well the brolly works well, even though it rained steadily all day the brew went off with no problems and has been put to bed with a couple of Gervin Ale yeast.

Re: Modern Brewery

I got one but I prefer to brew outside, easier to clean up and no condensation worries.
