Re: No yeast slurry in Conical fermenter

Which yeast was it? I've found some (WLP001) produce very little from the dump valve. Others (WLP007) produce loads. Guy The yeast is a WLP001 :) So that would explain it then based on your experience. I have done this before with this yeast. I started with a bought pack of WLP001, made a starter t...

Re: No yeast slurry in Conical fermenter

To be fair there is now three layers. The large amount of trub on the bottom, a very thin layer of yeast next and then beer on top. My concern is that i just sort of expected more yeast to be harvested. I will pour off most of the top layer and try to catch just that thin layer of yeast. I will post...

No yeast slurry in Conical fermenter

Just tried to dump some yeast from my ss brewtech 7 gal chronical. I did not get any slurry out only what appears to be mainly just beer with a bit of matter in it. This happened last time fermentation i did. I am using whole hops in the boil so i assume they are filtering out alot of material contr...

Re: How long do bottles stay sanitised?

Not with a bottle sprayer. 2 pumps and hang on the bottle tree. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bottle-Rinser-Cleaner-Steriliser-Washer-Bottles/253186710736?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20151005190540%26meid%3De135b2b741e141d69782c7864c6e429e%26pid%3D100505%26rk%3D1%26rkt%...

Re: JBK Own ESB

To make it easier for yourself use the recipe creator app. Then if you have the connect controller use the connect app which will pull the recipe from the recipe app. This will give you all the water volumes as in strike and sparge water volumes. Go for a volume of say 25l and input the grain types ...

Can any Grainfather brewers, help me with doing a Jim's esb, need lots of help with what amount of each grain, recommended batch size, mash and sparge water volumes.
A brief explanation on how you calculate these would be good.
For a start do you use the grainfather recipe app?

Re: #24 Pale Ale (Dry hopped)

chef, Nice looking Beer there! =D> Top tip....wipe the condensation off the glass before taking a pic, put a backlight behind the pint to show the colour and clarity of the beer in all its` splendour. Take a drink, stand back and say `BLM`. WA Best get another bottle out then and do as you suggest :)

Re: #24 Pale Ale (Dry hopped)

Just a quick picture of the finished product. Its had 4 weeks conditioning so i tried a bottle last night. Aroma wise its very pleasant, nice and fruity. Taste wise there is a bit of hoppyness but its not really that noticable. But you get a bit of hop flavour in the after taste. Next time i am goin...

Re: Equipment Advice

For grain and hop suppliers i always go to the malt miller. They have a handy recipe creator so you only buy the exact weight of ingredients you want so theres no loads of little bags of hops in the freezer scenarios. I thought hops were only sold in 100g in the recipe generator, is that not right?...

Re: Hydrometer for people with bad eyesight

Have you got a glass trial jar instead of the opaque plastic type as that should help a little. Everytime i use my plastic trial jar i say to myself i must buy a glass one. But i never get round to it. I will have to see if santa brings me one :)

Re: Stuck mash

Did you try as jocky said about making sure there is water in the silicon tube before mashing in? I only ask as i seem to remember a similar issue when i had my 3 vessel setup. What i woukd do is fill the mash tun with the required amount of water. Then slowly open the drain valve untill water comes...
