Re: Beer Engines

1) Above + Different spouts reflect location preferences and in some instances, the brewers choice (same with sprinklers). So in the north, it's normal to have a 'good' head on your ale, in the south, it's normal to have no head as such, hence the need for the different spouts. Angram even list them...

Re: Fermenting in stainless steel

I have a 20L stainless pot that I use to collect the wort from my mash tun before I pump it back into my HLT/Boiler. As stated above it's easy to prepare, I just put an inch of water in it and leave it boil away, fingers crossed, no issues, so far. When my currently Youngs plastic fermenter gives up...

Re: Growler dispenser

I have one of these http://deepwoodbrew.com/accessories/38-dw-brew-picnic-tap.html from deep wood brew, i haven't used it in anger yet but looks to be a good solid piece of kit and with a bit of fiddling with the pressure, dispenses very well. Service was good, with a reasonable shipping time but th...

Re: Outdoor brewing - electrics question

If you're using cable extentions i.e the ones on 'dispensers' which have then coiled up, then it's important to note that the capaicty of a coiled up extention lead, is a fraction of an uncoiled extention lead. As an example, I've just installed a dedicated 16A supply for my setup, using a 16A break...

Re: serious hlt hotspot issues

From my experience, probe location can and will give you a variance depending where it is located, especially if it's a large vessel. If it's located near the element then it can get affected by it, likewise, a central located sensor could give a variance against a wall mounted sensor. In addition, ...

Re: Braumister Pump

From my limited knowledge, there have been a few makes of pump fitted to the Braumisters, typically a blue one or a black one. The Blue ones are Vortex BW152 oT and the Black ones, are something like an Ecocirc E3. The Ecocirc pumps have a variable setting but looking at the Braumister instructions,...

Mine is also a push together afair, if slightly pinch the tubes, it make a tight fitting into the elbows +1 for cirtic acid, cheap and very effective.

Re: Removing All Trace of Solder?

In the day when I was a bench engineer we used to use either a "solder sucker" or solder braid. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/de-solder-pump-n40ch http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/de-soldering-braid-2mm-width-n49fx As an alternative, fill a small diameter copper tube with flux, melt the solder and then apply h...

Re: Blichmann beer gun robbing me of Carbs

Could it be a detergent (or similar) related issue? I had issues when I first started out, my issue was tracked to residual cleaning products left in the bottle. Detergent is known to reduce head retention. So could it be a difference in your bottling setup, which is reducing your head retention? Yo...

Re: Gravity feeding immersion chiller?

Gravity would work perfectly, the only problem would be the height required to get enough pressure to go through your coil. And yes having attempted to use a flash cooler to cool my wort, I can confirm that they don't stay cool for and deffo not long enough to cool any great volume of wort.

Re: Joining Silicone to Silicone?

Yes but I don't have the thickness to fit split beer line around it, as whilst it's a tight fit, there are still some gaps. I have a profile that fits around the edge, it just needs a bit of tension to keep it on and also to help thin it down i.e stretching it a little makes a perfect seal. So a sim...

Joining Silicone to Silicone?

Hi, Does anyone know of a glue or similar that I can use to join two lengths of Silicone profile together? Basically I have a length of Silicone profile, I want to make into a round seal, so I need some way to join them togther. As this is going to be placed inside my Mash Tun, it will have to be fo...

Re: I hate bloody autosyphons!

Get a small length of over sized tube to fit over your syphon tube. Give it a good suck and when you've primed the syphon simply pop the over size tube off, complete with all your gems and let it do it's own thing. An alternative to the above is to use one of those small plastic taps all home brew s...

Re: Bottle brushes.

Dishwasher with no tablet or rinse aid, followed by a dunking in your nasty killer of choice. Dishwasher will also make short work of the majority of stick on labels. I use london pride bottles and they come off easily. If it's the odd one or two bottles, then deffo rinse/clean after pouring, makes ...
