Re: My BM has arrived... you can afford one too!!

I've noticed that BrewUK brought their prices of the Braumeister down a bit, so I think it makes sense you shop with them. Shipping the Braumeisters is always risky as they are prone to transport damage (a lot depends on the courier service, of course). Buying "locally" will result in a bit less ha...

Re: Chill Haze with Safale US-05 Yeast

Well the Polyclar was a mare to try and mix even after 15 mins stirring it was still clumpy. Resultant bottles have haze even at room temperature so wont use that stuff again. Next batch of the same brew was in the new BM 50L so split the wort into 2 x FVs. 1 is in a brew fridge and after 8 days at ...

Re: Brew Builder conical fermentors

I see BrewUK are stocking, what appear to be, identical conical fermentors as Brew Builder now: http://www.brewuk.co.uk/ss-standard-conical-16.html

I'm still waiting to see the cooling coil solution for these units before making a decision.

Re: Brew Builder conical fermentors

Blichmann also don't have thermowells in their conicals. On their website they state that they've experimented and found only a small difference between a temperature reading from a probe in the centre of the fermentation and one taped to the side of the conical behind some insulation. Take from th...

Re: Brew Builder conical fermentors

Mr Lard ; nearly a frequent visitor  1) Thermowells in a fermenter give a great measurement on what is going on inside the fermentation without the risk of infection from a probe dropped into the wort. Could your £10 thermowell be fitted to the side? I do like the pictured T piece solution - bu...

Re: Brew Builder conical fermentors

I'm on the verge of getting a 64 litre conical and was eyeing up the SS Brewing version (17 US gallons; 64 litres). £414 from HomeBrewShop: (¢10.95 delivery) https://homebrewshop.be/en/fermenters/17-chronical-17-gallons-64-litres.html Or Rob at Malt miller is saying he weill be selling for £465 The ...

Re: Chill Haze with Safale US-05 Yeast

See this thread as well and Aleman's comments. Alan sells the Polyclar 730P he refers to. Thanks for the link 'Goulders'. Aleman's explanation certainly provides the science why and I can report that the mash pH was 5.6 and that the temperature controlled Braumeister prevented anything above 78 deg...

Re: Yeast starter questions: Wyeast 1332 Northwest Ale

The mash schedules was Mash in at 38C,75 Mins @ 64C and then 10 Mins @ 78C. I see you sold your BM, not packing it in i hope or is it the relentless drive for upgrades that this hobby sucks you in to? BM 20L sold, BM 50L arriving next week ;-) Gonna need bigger fermenters. I think you have a BM 50L...

Re: Yeast starter questions: Wyeast 1332 Northwest Ale

My Wyeast was still going after 6 days; it eventually fell about day 12, take a look at my earlier post for the krausen ring still hanging join even after crash cooling. What temp did you mash at?

Re: Chill Haze with Safale US-05 Yeast

Do you use Irish Moss in the boil. I find that when I forget to put it in my beer is hazzy. Generally I do not have a problem with US05 and it stays crystal clear after a couple of days in the bottle and after a couple of weeks when it is put in the beer fridge. 3 grams or Irish Moss into the boil ...

Chill Haze with Safale US-05 Yeast

The attached picture is of 2 identical bottles with the same beer in. The one on the left has been stored in my garage, the one on the right has been in the fridge for 9 hours. It's a fairly simple beer with Maris-Otter, Caramalt, Torrified Wheat, Cascade hops and Safale US-05 yeast. It also behaved...

Re: Yeast starter questions: Wyeast 1332 Northwest Ale

All my mashes so far have been at 66 degrees for 90 mins with a 10 minute 78 degree mash out and sparge (Braumeister)

EDIT: Only my first 2 brews were extract, I then built my own 3V system and have been all grain for 10 brews; the last 6 being in a 2015 Braumeister.

Re: Yeast starter questions: Wyeast 1332 Northwest Ale

Let me know where our brews end up with FG - I was disappointed with the Wyeast 1332 which finished way too low at 1009, was aiming for 1013 for something sweeter...
