Re: Leaky fv

From what you describe, it is leaking around the seal between the tap and the FV. Any scoring would have to be very bad for it not to seal. Is it an unusually large hole? You do have the seal on the outside of the FV? Are you certain that's where the leak is? I don't understand your reference to usi...

Re: Best use of wort cooler coil

You would have to keep the ice moving or the area around the coil would warm up quite quickly and be less effective. Using that way you are basically building a counter flow chiller. The CFC has the advantage of the coolant constantly moving to carry the heat away. I would stick with a standard meth...

Re: General Opinion On Bottling

I would bulk prime in the bucket an add some sort of filter to your outlet when you bottle, just to keep the seeds etc out

Re: Getting the hoppy taste and creaminess

No need to apologize! Its an attachment that goes on the end of a beer engines swan-neck. it aerates the beer and gives it more mouth-feel. Not popular down south though! Because it knocks all the condition out of it and you get less in your glass  I love a head on my beer, but it needs to be ...

Re: Tesco Element Help

Mine are argos elements ....I think! I thought I had removed all the cut outs from mine until I had the same problem. I then found a sneaky one I had missed, but the reason it tripped was because of a build up of crap on the element........it only takes a couple of boils. I now scrub them to death e...

Re: Storing Bulk Open Dry Yeast

I have a tub of Youngs multi purpose dried yeast for wine and beer. I don't use it in my beers routinely, but use it for experiments with "wine" T.C. and the like. It is at least 3 years since I first opened it and it works fine. It's been sat in a tupper ware type container in the fridge and moved ...

Re: Racking Off

An inch in your second FV  I would expect about that as a total. I don't believe that racking to a second vessel helps to settle any debris out. Anything that is in suspension in the liquid will settle to the bottom, regardless. Not sure what you mean by this. I syphoned off from the origina...

Re: Blackberry porter

I made a blackberry stout in March. I used about 6Kg of blackberrys and I added them at the end of the fermentation. I have added them to the end of the boil in the past and the flavour was very light. Adding them towards the end of the fermentation made it very fruity. Click this blackberry brewda...
