Re: Crossmyloof Brewery Dry Yeast

Will pick up a few packs and give it a go. Enjoying a Belgian single at the moment with lellemand abbey, best dry yeast I have tried so far. If it's as good as their Belle Saison then I can imagine it's a good one. I'll have to give it a try, as to be honest I've been moving away from CML yeasts. S...

Re: Belle Saison yeast and Mandarin Bavaria hops

I rather liked the Belle when I used it in my braggot too. Went from 1.060 down to 1.000 happily (so easy to get a high OG when making braggot it seems. lmao). I used 2 packets obviously with the OG been over 1.050. It was surprisingly clean for a Saison yeast, but sticks to the bottle like nobodies...

Re: Crossmyloof Brewery Dry Yeast

I got bubblegum and spice from the CML Belgian yeast, in a Patersbier. Produced a delicious beer, definitely one I'd consider using again. Not too bad attenuation either, at about 80% apparent.

Actually sticks to the bottle nicely when pouring too.

Re: Pump mountings

Glad it was helpful. I used to have it hanging loose, but found it meant I had to use more hose as it kinks if you use too short a length. Mashings.jpg So I switched to the elbows and QDs, and it's much more convenient to use. TweakedS.jpg The pump is still lower than the bottom of the boiler proper...

Re: Saison

All of this is why I keep using dried "French Saison" yeasts.... They never stall, and always hit 1.003 down to 1.000 just from fermenting at 26 degrees C. lol

Re: Pump mountings

I clamp the pump directly to the boiler tap with 90 degree elbows and quick disconnects. Does the job, and makes it easy to remove for cleaning etc.

Re: Spare pump for bulldog brewer

If it uses standard sized 1/2" hose (I suspect that it does), then I can heartily recommend the Brew Builder TS-5 mini mag pump (once back in stock). It'll even cope with any grain that gets into it. Probably a bit better than the pump that came with even.

Re: Hose connections

I have both fitting types on my boiler setup. Of the 2, I probably prefer the quick disconnects, they're easier to use. Camlocks are good too, but you need 2 hands to fasten them, and it can be awkward fastening them shut in tight spaces.

Re: Wen's Lunch (Patersbier) AG BIAB #8

I'd say I'll give it a go, but there's no point my using anything that gives even a hint of banana. One whiff of it and my wife won't drink it. The CML is OK at best, somewhere between neutral and generic fruity. To be honest though, it's hard to tell where the hops end and the yeast starts (or vice...

Re: SS Pipe Whirlpool Arm

Maltmiller and BrewUK both do whirlpool fittings. The Maltmiller one is just a bulkhead, a 90 degree elbow and a barb fitting.

I've been using a Brewbuilder 1/2" Pickup XL fitted into a 90 degree elbow myself.

Could do with more of a bend, but does create a whirlpool effect.

Re: BIAB AG #10 Mr Pump's Braggot "Your safety is my concern"

I'm rather pleased with how this one came out. Perfect carbonation, and a lovely flavour. Dry with lots of honey, tropical and citrus fruit and just a hint of a pleasant maltiness in the back, very low bitterness. Poured very carefully, with no foam created, it went on to form a small white head on ...

Re: Recirculation pump on an ACE boiler

MashingTConnecteds.jpg This will be where I connect the hose when I am mashing, so it's a gentler return and also higher up in the boiler (making it easier to fit my veg steamer insert below it). I got the idea for this from donchiquon's suggestion. It wasn't so much that it was too powerful (the v...

Re: Recirculation pump on an ACE boiler

Right, I made some tweaks to this (thanks to Lardy at Brew Builder for the parts and excellent customer service). First up, I removed 1 90 degree elbow and the 1/2" BSP nipple from the jet returns. It didn't really serve a useful purpose (1 elbow is plenty, as the silicone hose is plenty flexible en...

AG BIAB #11 Moist Saison 29/03/18

I actually brewed this yesterday, but was too tired to post about it, so here it is now. Another Saison, my go to style when I want to use something up. In this case it was a bunch of hop pellets in the freezer that I've had since I started all grain brewing.... It was also an opportunity to try to ...

Re: Goblin's Glod - AG #9

Well, last night my wife and I finally did a side by side taste test on this, comparing to a bottle of Hobgoblin Gold. We didn't do it blind, as our aim was to compare the flavour, neither of us cares that much about how it looks. However, looks do still matter slightly soooo... Hobgoblin Gold...
