Bohemian pilsner malt - OK for single stage mash?

I'm planning on making the Greg Hughes Bohemian Pilsner. The recipe says single stage 65 degC mash - but in his book section on malts, he says that this malt requires a multi stage mash.

I don't want to do a multistage mash - will this be OK?

Thanks

Re: Help with boiler

i have exactly the same boiler.

Yep - it takes time but all my brews so far have been excellent -flavour, strength, body and clarity. I think you are worrying about something that has no real effect.

Re: Baobab beer

Update. My enquiry to one of the commercial producers elicited a very helpful reply. They suggest that the addition should be 100g of dried baobab powder per barrel and that it should be added at the end of the boil. They also say that it is likely to induce a haze and is best suited to white/wheat ...

Baobab beer

There are a few commercial baobab containing beers and I'm keen to have a go at making one - but I can't find any recipes. St Austell have one http://www.staustellbrewery.co.uk/baobab and Carlsberg do another https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/jacobsen-baobab/442656/ I'm keen to do a lager type which I t...

Re: Brewing with oats

Instant/pre-steamed/gelatinised oats are efffectively part cooked and re-dried. This has the effect of rupturing the cell walls and oat structure to make the starch available for rapid hydration/gelatinisation when you make porridge. This means that the porridge cooks cooks quicker and has a creamer...

Brass tap nut inside boiler - safe?

I have just invested in a nice new boiler that came with a "stainless steel" ball valve. The valve is definitely 316 ss (stamped on it) but the fixing nut that goes inside the boiler (in contact with the wort) is made of brass. Same goes for the ss thermometer - the sensor bit is ss but the fixing n...

Best filter for boil vessel

Thanks for everyone's valued help on the pot volume question. I notice that some boiling vessels come equipped with perforated false bottoms. I was going to go for a bazooka filter based on what I have read - but do brewers really filter hops and trub with a perforated false bottom ?(I thought that ...

Boiler size advice

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a 30 litre electric boiler - size is 35cm diameter x 35cm height. Two questions; What is the safe maximum starting wort volume I can get in it for a rolling boil that won't boil over? Do others use a thermostat to control boils - do I need something like an Inkbird control...

Organic grains and hops

I'm keen to brew some beers with either all or large content of organic ingredients (I have been looking at pesticide issues in cereals - keen to drink pure beer without agrichemicals or ingredients that have been intensely produced with fertilizer run off into rivers etc). I can buy quite a few (ex...

Mashing in a boil pot with a bazooka filter

I'm planning to mash in a boil pot with a bazooka filter that I know is really for filtering trub through hops. My process is to mash in that pot, then transfer to lautering tun with false bottom (I want to use the tap from the mash pot to transfer rather than lift the weight which will be too heavy...

Greg Hughes Amarillo - perfect for my taste with US05 yeast. Not the cheapest recipe but it beats most beers you can buy by a wide margin.

mashing in 30l, 2.4kw "boiler" with Inkbird controller

Hi, My current mash arrangement is to heat on the cooker hob with a digital thermo dipped in from time to time and then warm hold in the cooker oven on low with the digi thermo dipped in and monitored externally (thermo sensor on a cable) - then if the temp drops, I take it out of the oven and rehea...
