Re: White skim on bottled beer
why bother with the taste test.. as its a skin its likely?? (btw i am no microbiologist..) to be something air born thats landed on the brew and thrived, and there are lots of things that can do that one huge group being wild yeast, and a yeast may or may not have a negative impact beyond the losses...

Re: Need Element Advice
Using a hop spider which does have a significant footprint i can maintain a nice rolling boil using a single 2.4kw element in my 98l kettle with 80+l of liquor. I have 1 x 2.4kw and 1 x 3kw elements fitted in both my hlt and boil kettles, Both powered off seperate ring circuits and supplied via 13a ...

Re: Maxi cooler
Thanks. I've fashioned a cork into there. Looks to me b ok to me. Now time to let it do its thing! I got a beer tap with it and the lines stink like fish. I ordered some new pipe and am assuming I can replace it right to the tap? the font should strip down giving you access to change all the tube t...

Re: Maxi cooler
blutak makes a good temp bung, the water mass will increase in volume slightly when the ice wall starts to build so be optimistic and insert a bung to avoid an overspil later.
loop the recirc otherwise expect to get soaked as it pumps the waterbath contents over you..

Re: Maxi cooler
filling with water is a good start, its improbable that the chiller has been converted to glycol without you being charged a premium price for the upgrade. and a quick run with water will reveal the state quick enough, if the ice wall builds up beyond a couple of inches within an hour or two and the...

Re: The Home Brewer's Database - Les Howarth
most recipes are complete, the concise format does involve a wee bit of decoding tho as the grain and hop bills are presented as ratios or %'s
thankfully the initial chapters do detail step by step how to use the recipes and its pretty straight forward..

Re: Barbed fittings for regulator
The same inserts that make synthetic water pipe robust enough to handle compression fittings may? also enable you to employ JG fittings with more flexible hose.

Re: Grainfather first brew - bit of a disaster
the trick to evacuating the steam from a room is to employ a natural draught, in my case its as simple as opening both the door and window, and on all but windy days the steam from my 100l kettle or the g/f simply leaves... i did start using a large ebay bargain 45cm fan to help the airflow, but aft...

Re: Einbrew 1V1P Brew Controller
Fair point. As no one else has brought an off the shelf plug n brew controller to market, they get to set the price.. If there is a market, and im sure there is, competitors should appear bringing the price down if the margins will allow?? the apples n oranges comparisons are inevitable untill more ...

Re: Einbrew 1V1P Brew Controller
Great write up, and it had better work well for the price ,, £389 i didn't stay on the site any longer so that may or may not incur extra for pnp too.. But if you want a level of automation and control without too much hands on diy and have a healthy brewtoy budget?? However I would also expect web ...

Re: Grainfather first brew - bit of a disaster
Watch the wort coming up to the boil like a hawk from about 95 degrees to 5 mins into rolling boil, hot break and froth need patting / stirring down with a paddle or spraying water. Hey @kingfisher4 I think you may have browsed one too many US forums, the Hot break is when protiens clump up and fal...

Re: Grainfather first brew - bit of a disaster
sorry to read that the first brew with the g/f wasnt the best experience.. sounds like a case of 'culture shock' perhaps? A slow drain through the grain tube of a grainfather is way faster than your average batch or even fly sparging session ;) so if coming from that direction its not registered as ...
