Electrical Question
Made some good progress with my build but just when I thought I had finished, disaster. I turned on the main power switch and immediately the breaker in the box as well as the one for the room tripped. After resetting everything I was left with a box where nothing worked despite it all working befor...

Re: Show us your brewery
Just a few photos as a teaser of the build progress. I'm away from the brewery at the moment and just before I left, both the breaker in the control panel and the room one tripped and I was left with a box that didn't work... including everything that had worked before  Anyway here goes: http:...

Re: question about sodastream cylinders
I've bought an adapter from http://www.co2supermarket.co.uk/ which converts it to a normal fitting but haven't got round to testing it yet... I can't see why it won't work though.

Re: Combined Immersion/Counterflow/Wort Recirculation Device
I think it would work but whether it would be better and cheaper than a good plate chiller and a filter I'm not too sure. If you have the time and fancy a project then go ahead... I'm sure everyone would love to see how it turns out. How do you plan driving the prop?

Re: How do YOU use star san?
Be careful when using StarSan on equipment with soft metals, namely copper. My Blichmann Therminator has copper brazing that holds all the stainless plates together. I only perform a brief sanitizing run through that chiller with StarSan. I should probably do less with StarSan and use Iodophor more...

Re: Chest Freezer Internal Dimensions
Cost and cooling power. A fridge would need to be big and therefore expensive. A freezer also gives me the option to cool to near zero and crash cool more efficiently.

Chest Freezer Internal Dimensions
My brewery build is making good progress but the next task is to find a home for my fermenting vessel. I've bought a plastic conical tank which is 40cm in diameter and need to find a chest freezer that will accommodate it. The plan is to remove the lid and use insulated board to build up the height ...

Re: Which hops to buy in the USA
I ordered pellets and they went through customs without a hitch. I declared them as hops on the form and the box wasn't opened so guess they don't have a problem with them.

Re: Ecofass Kegs
Actually I was thinking about the seal between bottle and the cap.Hogarth wrote:Beer bottle caps are made of metal and are impermeable to oxygen. Even if they weren't, their surface area is tiny compared to the surface of a plastic bag. I think I'll take your 'bottom line' with a pinch of salt.

Re: Ecofass Kegs
I've had a look at a few journals online that look at the rate of transfer of oxygen through food safe plastic... yes, there really are people who research that! Since the bag is very thick compared to most food packaging the rate of transfer is going to be really low. Of course the big problem is t...

Assumed that would be the case. I guess grain and water will be lighter than the same volume of water alone.

Thanks, having a look for some. I'm going for 100l vessels... do you think 200kg max would be fine?

Re: The Brewery Room Build
I considered using scales but worries about how they would handle the heat and weight. What are you using, if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Which hops to buy in the USA
Ended up going for just Ahtanum since I couldn't find Sorachi Ace anywhere with reasonable shipping.
