Re: Tomorrow's brew

Hi Rookie Ever thought of moving to metric measurements? 0.3 oz looks really odd! 8.5 grams seems much better! Guy Gerald Ford signed into law the metric conversion act on the 23 December 1975 but did not make it mandatory. So don't hold your breath. If Rees Mogg gets his way we will be dragged bac...

Looks really nice. Seems good value if it comes with the liquid yeast as well. I've never bought a mash kit before for some reason but can see the appeal
The kits certainly put paid to having odds and sods of malts & hops left lurking around .

I'm glad you agree Fubar. I think for me, it has really rekindled my love for English ale. I haven't tried it against the bottled version. Have you?
Yes and it's certainly in the right ballpark .

Re: Maltmillers Timothy Taylor's Landlord Kit

Yes and it is a cracking pint , the yeast plays a big part in that . I did try brewing the exact same recipe but using 002 , still a nice beer but it lacked that hint of caramel .

Re: Beer stone remover

Would amount to £4 a brew for me if I had a meter as I treat my mash and sparge liquor separately  . Oh. Why is that? I run about 65 litres of raw water into the HLT, measure the alkalinity and treat with AMS to get it down to about 20ppm, then check again. This is heated to about 85 C and t...

Re: Controlling the flow from a solar pump

I power mine with a tattoo gun power supply , you can to a certain extent slow the flow with that . If you could get it at a slow enough flow for your particular set up is another matter .
Mine these days is just used to pump liquor from my HLT to the GF , not used my 3V system for about 6 years .

Re: Adnams Southwold Bitter

Alas it would need a very high mast a Yagi and a lot of patience to get much response on 2 metres around here . Think the AMU might struggle a bit on top band Eric , wonder how long a TX at 50W on SSB it would take to dry out the cones  . Don't recall seeing an equation to work that one out in ...

Re: Adnams Southwold Bitter

Good to read Eric , just something special about a green hop beer . Certainly looked some nice big healthy hop cones you had to use , it has been on my to do list for a couple of years to get some rhizomes and plant them in the garden . Seeing as I now deliver to https://essentiallyhops.co.uk/produc...

Re: Brewing in a drought!!

Right so I brewed yesterday and the wort went into the cube about 2pm and was left on a concrete shed floor overnight . just checked the temp and its down to 24 so it has gone in my brew fridge to knock the last few degrees out . One bit of advice I would give anyone using one of these for the first...

What Jerry cans are we using? I like this idea.
The malt miller ones are nice and sturdy with a solid handle and no nooks and crannies where crud could lurk , very impressed at the price . Will get the first use on Saturday brewing Twisted barrel Mild .

Re: Brewing in a drought!!

The reason is is called "The cold break" You probably wouldn't get that with an overnight chill, would you? Guy Surely if protofloc and brewbrite are added to the boil as usual , the cold break should still occur once the temperature drops enough ? . I will find out next brew day , if not I will ha...
