Re: Pitching straight onto trub
Thanks, for this advice, it is really helpful. My plan is to get my bottling bucket ready while the new wort cools then, once it is at pitching temperature, drain the beer into the bucket and use the trub straight away, either in a disinfected fermenter or just throw it on the old yeast cake, as see...

Re: Pitching straight onto true
So are you saying throw the wort on the old trub without any sanitation?

Re: Pitching straight onto true
My concerns about pitching straight into the used FV is that I've heard it is a massive over pitch and sanitation, but I have heard it can be done. Do you need to sanitise any of the used FV? I quite like the idea of just throwing some of the trub into the new wort, again my only issue would be how ...

Pitching straight onto trub
I normally harvest yeast from my trub and grow it on with a starter when I need it. However, I now want to bottle an ESB (I used WLP002) and immediately use the trub to brew an Old Ale, which will be about 1067 OG.
How do I go about it?

Not with a bottle sprayer. 2 pumps and hang on the bottle tree. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bottle-Rinser-Cleaner-Steriliser-Washer-Bottles/253186710736?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20151005190540%26meid%3De135b2b741e141d69782c7864c6e429e%26pid%3D100505%26rk%3D1%26rkt%...

Aah, I had one of those and broke it very quickly. I might try again as it was a quick way of doing it.

Re: How long do bottles stay sanitised?
See, I never think a squirt gets everywhere so I slosh some in the bottle, give it a shake and then pop the Star San into the next one. I'm paranoid about sanitising so I probably make a rod for my own back.

How long do bottles stay sanitised?
Once I’ve sanitised my bottles with Star San (well, the Malt Miller version) and put on a sanitised plastic cap, how long will they stay sanitised? I’m thinking a few hours or overnight at the most. I hate bottling and I’d just like to break up the jobs a bit.

Re: Hydrometer for people with bad eyesight
Aren't refractometers affected by the colour of beer? I was going to get one until I read that somewhere.
