Re: How do you identify diacetyl?

Yeah, I'm talking about london pride in bottles. And the taste is very, very prominent. But not sweet like butterscotch. Perhaps metallic is the wrong word tho.

I may check out these flavour kits.

How do you identify diacetyl?

Buttered popcorn you say? Well not sure if that's an american thing but I've never in my life been a cinema that sells buttered popcorn. Its normally salted in the grim north. Even still, I would expect beef dripping would be the fat of choice up here anyway :) (Dripping popcorn sounds quite interes...

Re: Corny in the freezer?

I think it depends on the model. Most just use a single compressor I think so you wont be able to control both independently very easily. And I expect a full corny in a freezer even at low power would freeze eventually. Ive froze a carboy full of beer in a fridge at full belt. Beer was fine mind as ...

Re: Help with big, oak flavoured dark ale

I've just oaked a stout with a single chunk of JD barrel that weighed about 50g (22liters by the time it got the secondard). The beer was in the primary for 2 weeks and had settled down, I racked it into a secondary with the oak and intend to leave it there for at least another 6 weeks (as I move ho...

Re: Kegorator Advice Please

-17 wow, cold closet that :) Anyways, if it's consistant year round then you could work with it as its predictable and you could get the carb levels you want and get your lines balanced. If the temp fluctuates a lot though, will be a PITA. 17c is warm beer to me tho. If have the space tho, get a che...

Re: Ginger in ale?

Treat it like a dry hop and go big in one fermentor. If its too much at bottling mix it with some of the none gingered one to bring it in line.

Marble add ginger to the cask for their 'Ginger'.

Re: HELP - no room for a kegerator

I have my kegs in a plastic shed. Works fine for most of the year. July and August are tricky but manageable. The shed gets no direct sunlight. Beer is generally served between 4-12 degrees depending on time of year. I just brew accordingly and have long, thin lines to help with fobbing in summer. R...

Re: sankey Sparses

Thanks.

The gas NRV look the same, though never come across that torpedo shape one for the beer out line. Worth a punt for £1 though!

Pure O2

Hi, Do people who use pure O2 think it is worth the investment? If so, how much was it and where did you source to the kit? I currently use an aquarium pump with a inline filter and a diffuser stone. This drives me potty. It produces way to much foam, takes 30mins (and im not even sure it does a goo...

Re: How clear is your vorlauf?

I stop recirculating as soon as there is no grain in the runoff, regardless of clarity. Sometimes this can be ages, sometimes only a jug go or so. It always drops clear in the end. Apart from chill haze, but thats another matter!

Re: What about this for an idea - Hop removal

Whats wrong with a normal copper pipe filter in the kettle? Simple, cheap and easy to clean.

Having the hops in the kettle filters a lot of the crap at the end. I suppose if you aren't using a tap it might be worth removing them, but otherwise not sure why you would bother.
