Re: Lager
To be honest, I've avoided gelatine for the same reason. I'm assuming that Brewbrite is vegan-friendly as it's seems to be a mixture of Kappa Carageenan and a synthetic polymer, though nothing on the packaging actually seems to say it is?

Re: Lager
If you use it ignore the instructions that say you can add it dry. It works much better if you mix it with a small amount of cold water until it is like thick soup. Thanks for the advice IPA Back to the original question - I use a minimum of 50ppm calcium in the mash, use brewbrite in the boil and ...

Re: Salted Chocolate Cinder Toffee Imperial Stout
That's one hell of a saving! You'll have to buy at least one more at full price for a taste comparison thoughfloydmeddler wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 3:39 pmHomebrew price is £41.24. Will end up with 19L I'd say. So, 95p for 440ml. Serious price difference!

Lager
I've read a number of differing thoughts about lager water profiles, some saying the water should be as low as possible in minerals, others saying to add calcium up to about 70ppm. It makes sense to me to add some calcium as, since I started adjusting my water for ales, they have been the clearest b...

Re: Salted Chocolate Cinder Toffee Imperial Stout
I can see why you want to brew this. At £7.50 a can (plus postage) it could be an expensive habit. [emoji51] That's was my exact thought! It would be interesting to work out how much this does cost to make at homebrew scale though. I also see there's an 11% stout for £10 further down the page. A te...

Fair enough, at least he's not putting it on! I'm just hee-arh for the bee-arh
I've just watched the final and did quite enjoy it, and also actually warmed a bit towards James in the end.

Re: The Great British Brew-off?
I've finally taken the plunge and signed up for a free trial of Prime. The show is entertaining enough and I have learned a couple of things from the first episode - a 6% beer is now classed as easy drinking/sessionable, and it is hard to distinguish between a gram of malt and a kilogram of malt jus...

Re: Cellar
I had a full cellar when I used to live in Yorkshire but unfortunately wasn't brewing back then. It would have been so easy to run a line from a cask in the cellar to a handpump in the kitchen, lovely bitter served at the correct temperture without any fuss

Yeah, definitely a shame by the sounds of it. I'll still have a look out of curiosity too, though.

Re: Wobblygob cider review
That's interesting Guy, especially the bit about yeast temps. I always assumed it would be better fermented lower for a crisper drink much the same as with lager, that shows what I know! Having only made cider from cheap supermarket apple juice in the past, I think I'm going to have to order a coupl...
