Re: 10L cheap pressure keg recommendation

The item pictured is intended as a keg. Their fermenter/kegs are clear PET. But having had the source of these plastic kegs identified for me (Keg King, Australia) it appears I (or someone else discussing them) may have misinterpreted the descriptions ... they don't appear to have internal bags (the...

... Are these reusable, though?
Not-reuseable = one-shot. Or, at least that's how I was referring to it.

These are some being discussed on another forum, but I've no idea who supplies them.

Re: 10L cheap pressure keg recommendation

There's a lot of this sort of thing going about: 10L KeyKeg Not just KeyKeg. Kegland are in on it, and there will be others. Not sure if the Keykeg ones are single shot (the older designs were), the Kegland ones are not single shot. CO2-less dispense too. Suitable for high pressure keg and low-press...

Re: Beers (late 19th Century and 20th Century)

This trial of No.2 ("M") Invert Sugar has been a bit of a ... "trial"? The first batch of "AK" (Ragus Invert) was ready for drinking only after a couple of weeks casked. It developed a very fruity flavour, distinctly so, "Tutti-fruitti" was how it struck me. The second batch (my emulated Invert, dex...

Re: Pyknometers (what hydrometers emulate) revisited!

Ah, "Eric to the rescue" :D I do worry that I'm hiding an important message under mountains of high-browed (for me!) maffmattykul stuff. I started out to create a bit of mischief (I can't easily read hydrometers and haven't touched one for eons), but these pickynometer things are panning out to be v...

Want to know why I bother with all this brain ache?

No arguments? No discussion? But I can see the thread clocking up hits so there must be some interest. Well I'll invent my own arguments and argue with them. One subject I know crosses some minds: Why do I go to all that trouble and maths? Why not buy a hydrometer? Well, the latter should be known w...

Re: Pyknometers (what hydrometers emulate) revisited!

The weight of my 100ml bottle full of water is: 20220927_153920_WEB.jpg Wow. The sample is calculating out at marginally heavier than I earlier recorded (in this thread). I was expecting as much as I wasn't applying this calibration "temperature correction" previously, just trying to have the sample...

Re: Pyknometers (what hydrometers emulate) revisited!

Putting some flesh on these spreadsheet blathering: I start by collecting the bits for a once off (per bottle) "calibration". Calibrated weighing scales (calibration weights to make sure), measuring cylinder full of tap water (use distilled/deionised if you must, but there is nowt much in my tap wat...

Re: Pyknometers (what hydrometers emulate) revisited!

Spreadsheet updated. Some minor changes and a bit more Fahrenheit support (displays the equivalent but does not use for calculations). There is a transformed lookup table for Fahrenheit, but I'm not using it. I have mentioned that the "Specific Gravity" scale might be dodgy. But I've been through it...

Re: Pyknometers (what hydrometers emulate) revisited!

... The bottle's weight full of water @ 20°C is (as above) 135.21g . The bottle's weight full of water @ 4°C is (density of water is 1.000g/ml, at 20°C it was 0.9982g/ml) (135.21 / 0.9982)g (there is no need to multiple by 1.000!). The bottle's weight full of water @ 15°C is (density of water is 0....

Re: Pyknometers (what hydrometers emulate) revisited!

I've gone as far as I'm probably going with this spreadsheet for the time being, so I'll get it posted. A Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. It has not been tested on "Google Sheets" but probably works? It's been fascinating creating it. I knew hydrometers were only a convenient (in days past) way of extr...

Re: Controlling the flow from a solar pump

It works for any "open" impeller type pump (be it magnetically coupled, recommended, or direct drive). If you've a "closed" impeller, you'll know about it (they're much more expensive, always direct drive, and continue pumping if the outlet is restricted until something gives in). Control the outflo...

Re: Pyknometers (what hydrometers emulate) revisited!

... Correcting the above posts directly while I still can. Where upon the forum site has a "disk space" tantrum, and in the time to fix I lost the chance to edit the defective post! So, the defects remain (I erroneously applied some calculations to the total bottle weight instead of just the sample...

Re: Pyknometers (what hydrometers emulate) revisited!

... So, it should have displayed (100.80 + (35.70-35.20)) or 101.30. Still got something wrong (1.0130 isn't 1.0139), but nothing like as dramatic. Told you the error would come out in the translation to spreadsheet. And it did! Highly technical miscalculation that would have taken forever to find ...
