Re: Anyone interested in a winter warmer

Malt Miller do an Old Peculiar clone mash kit. What about something along those lines? (Sorry Fuggled Mind, I kinda nicked your first thinking! :D )

Re: Anyone interested in a winter warmer

I've brewed the following recipe a couple of times and it's turned out to be very nice. It's not a dark beer, but it fits the "winter warmer" style in taste, being malty, a little sweet and has that warming alcohol glow required with feet up by the fireside on cold night. For the extract and steeped...

Re: Jim's ESB Brewalong 24th-25th October 2015

This seems to be stirring up a little interest!
So, Fuggled Mind, you reckon a new thread and try to kick it off?
(I don't see any difficulty with sugar, having read a little history and old recipes, there was no shame in using it in the good old days).

Re: Jim's ESB Brewalong 24th-25th October 2015

Hmm, worth a thought. What do you reckon then Tourer? Up for it? I guess we'd have to start a new thread. Not sure I have the experience to suggest a recipe but maybe one of the more experienced members could? What about style? I'm thinking it might too late for a winter warmer? Those stronger ales ...

Re: Fruit from amelanchier trees + calamondin

You can make dipping sauces with you calamondin (calamansi / kalamunding) fruit juice, mix some with fish sauce and a little chilli or fish sauce and soy sauce. Goes with pretty much any grilled meat or fish, spring rolls and so on. If you have enough of them, they make decent marmalade!

Re: raspberry wit

Brilliant! I've been thinking along these lines for a while, and I must have a go at a fruit beer. Couldn't see the pictures sadly as the wonderful company I work for (symbol of scallop) security blocked them!

Re: Hops by the gram

The Home Brew Company do "custom" AG kits. You specify what grain (up to 8kgs), hops (up to 160g) and either dry or liquid yeast. Presently they are offering a dry yeast AG kit for just short of twenty quid. There are restrictions and you have to be quite specific what you want (hop additions in AA'...

Re: Jim's ESB Brewalong 24th-25th October 2015

Just had another read through this and realised that there hasn't been a "brewalong" in 2017, unless I somehow missed it.
My 2016 Summer Quaffer was a complete disaster beerwise (bloody awful in fact), but I enjoyed having a go.
Any plans this year, a "winter warmer" perhaps (possibly a bit late)?

That's very neat. Certainly a few ideas worth thinking about.

I like the sound of citra infusion in the Cerveza. I have a similar kit stashed away for a spare brew day. I reckon I'll give it a go!

Re: DIY beer engine

There are a few on the bay of evil right now. There are three together (not worked out how to paste links) at around 20 quid each, and another rough looking one at about a tenner. Also there's a lot of others at daft money.

Re: Comparing yeasts

Yeah, go for it. I was quite surprised by the difference in flavour. The 3056 really did bring out the spicy, slightly banana sort of flavours that I'd experienced with commercial beers that I'd bought for a guide, never really having drank wheat beers before. I hope my "Patersbier" and (maybe) lage...

Re: Comparing yeasts

I tried a similar method last year, the first attempt was a simple wheat beer 50 / 50 pale malt and wheat and using the same hops (can't remember what they were, I don't have my log book with me). I split the wort between two demijohns and pitched Wyeast 3056 Bavarian Wheat into one and Wyeast 3068 ...

Re: And another one pot brewing system!

If anyone is interested the new "Bulldog Brewer" one pot system is in stock at the Home Brew Shop (now located in Farnborough). Although it's not in the online catalogue as yet, I am assured it will be within a couple of days. Too late for me, I couldn't resist the 50 quid off a Grainfather at Brew ...
