+1 to this. When the thermal fuse goes, the boiler will be totally caput until replaced. An easy job to do though, worth getting an upgraded one. It happened to my 30l Buffalo and after it was replaced it worked fine.LeeH wrote:Have you looked at the internal thermal fuse?

Re: 2nd Brew - LV-233 Black Liquid. Big improvement!
Like the reference in the name. Get yourself some lagging for the boiler and you should be fine. I used to lose a couple of degrees over 90 mins in my old Buffalo with a sleeping bag on it, but that was out in the shed, mind. Just hope the finished result doesn't do what the 'black liquid' mentioned...

I'm erring to 100g galaxy, with maybe the 60g of the other stuff too. They're all pellets btw. Got loads of other hops but pellets are much easier for dry hopping IMO.

Youngs A.P.A.
Due to an enforced hiatus from AG brewing (still in between houses) I'm brewing a kit. Haven't done a kit since my very first brew so oddly excited to get this one underway! Space was an issue, so brewing in a 25 litre jerry can I got from the bay and stuck it in a make shift brew fridge (mum's ches...

Re: Demijohn Rubber Bung Alternative
Hop and Grape have them. I've always had really good service from them although I don't use them that regularly.

Re: Demijohn Rubber Bung Alternative
Larger ones will work but its a bit iffy. I originally bought six, but brewsmarter/homebrewwest gave me 3 larger ones and 3 of the correct size. The larger ones work on one of my DJs as it is an old on and the opening a little larger but wouldn't feel comfortable using it on the others.

http://www.brewsmarter.co.uk/silicone-bung-2632-mm-with-9-mm-hole-for-airlock-1446-p.asp These ones did the job nicely, pushed in snugly so top is pretty much flush with top of DJ. No problems with infection or ferevent drying required. They have good give so fit well in my experience. Perhaps the r...

Re: Demijohn Rubber Bung Alternative
They can be a bit slippy but I usually pack them right in for bulk storage. Never had an issue with rubber ones slipping so may be worth getting a couple if different sizes

Try getting some of the silicone ones. I've found them really good for meads I've had under airlock for bulk aging

How'd this turn out in the end? Big fan of Scarlet Macaw too so if this is close it'll be on the 'to brew' list.

This is my only real concern; big hop flavours. Double whammy of fast chilling and improved hop flavour and aroma. If no theres no cone, no worries!Jocky wrote:4. Greater hop oil utilisation in a whirlpool for flameout hops

Re: Pumps for Whirlpool chillers...
Thanks for the feedback gents. As you suggest Aleman, plan was less than 50% pellets in brews but I also tend to let settle for some time prior to chilling anyway, and then plan to add whirlpool hops (probably pellets for these). Hopefully this shouldn't cause porblems. And if these pumps are up to ...

Pumps for Whirlpool chillers...
Greetings and salutations fellow brewers... I'm still considering my whirlpool chiller build and wanted a little advice about a decent pump without spending loads. The chiller itself is still not built, and won't be done for some time due to a minor hiatus from AG. Plan is to build it from 10mm micr...

Re: STC ready made
The other guys make good points, it is relatively simple to do. However, this is a decent price and for the ease of having it ready done not a bad option. I've got a couple of the old Cedaronics ones because I'm lazy...
