Re: Cooling FV before bottling/barrelling?
No two ferments are the same, so you should always look for a constant gravity over 3 days as a sign that fermentation is over, and only crash cool after that
Thanks MB. Have done a few checks and it is holding steady at 1010 as the kit suggests it should, so hopefully ok...
You only want to crash cool once you know that primary is over, otherwise you could end up with frothy bottles (or worse) if the yeast has more than just the priming sugar to chew through in the bottle. 2 or 3 days at that temperature will certainly help to drop alot of the yeast...

Re: Cooling FV before bottling/barrelling?

Thanks injac and truemay

Think I'll give this a go for the last couple of days of my 14 day Primary, and see what difference it makes.

Our garage is about 9 degrees this time of year - will a couple of days in there do the job?

Cooling FV before bottling/barrelling?

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone moves their FV into a cooler room a couple of days before bottling?

Is there any benefit from this?...and if so do you do it at day 14 or earlier? (I'm trying to stick to the 2-2-2 rule at the moment!).

Thanks for any advice!
Cheers!
