Re: Brewday mistake--oops!
Recently enjoyed a very heavily hopped Motueka SMaSH in a micro pub locally. Sure you will enjoy it, might even improve it from the original recipe!

Re: Fermenter options
This. This right here. Bloody brilliant!! Get the pressure kit too!! https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/fermentasaurus-starter-kit/ Sadly not available; when I tried to get one a few months ago I think Rob said the company was not currently manufacturing but they were such a good product that ...

Re: Grainfather filter vs hop pellets
Loading in this one was150 I think. Big stir at flameout and let sit for 15. Notice the height above the filter and then it’s still draining but height falls below the filter. Never had a blocked pump. One other thing I do is orient the rubber cup inside the filter so that it’s collecting wort faci...

Re: Grainfather filter vs hop pellets
Thank you, unless there are any replies compellingly arguing for the continued use of pellets, I’m likely to stick with leaf hops exclusively for the foreseeable future with my grainfather. The Hop quantities were at the upper range of my various brews for these two recipes but I did use a commercia...

Grainfather filter vs hop pellets
Does anyone else have problems with the Grainfather filter when using hot pellets compared to full leaf hops? I have only completed nine AG brews so far but the first of these using hot pellets produced lots of sludge as residue and quite a lot of wasted wort in the base of the Grainfather. This was...

Re: Bottle Conditioning
Thanks, that’s very reassuring. I have only used M 36 for the last three brews and haven’t yet ventured into anything more exotic than golden and traditional English style bitters. I have tried to keep my cleaning regime scrupulously thorough, so hope I don’t have too much chance of stray yeast. I l...

Re: Bottle Conditioning
Straight after bottling I leave them at around 16C for 4 or 5 days, then put them to condition long-term at 12 or 13C. They'll take longer to carbonate if you put them straight at 12-13 after bottling (though as long as the yeast will still work at that temperature they'll be OK). Help and advice w...

Re: Export GF recipe
The GF Connect app is much more flexible than the old recipe app. Best to use the full PC/MAC version for recipe import/ writing/ editing etc. From memory, go to my recipes and you have options to edit import copy pdf etc for each recipe or new recipe. It also auto updates with your phone app when a...

Re: Crossmyloof yeast
Cost and performance are excellent with most CML yeasts, flavour however is sometimes a different story. Using the real ale yeast I started noticing a "Belgian" taint to my beers, which just didn't seem right for the styles, possibly it doesn't like been fermented at room temperature (20 degrees C)...

Re: Grainfather first brew - bit of a disaster
After switching from a 3 vessel system to the grainfather I only have one criticism. That filter. I use a hop spider but still have issues with the filter blocking. It would be the only reason why I would sell my gf. The wort doesn’t seem as clear as it did with the 3v system either Agree with the ...

Re: Grainfather first brew - bit of a disaster
Hi again Its not so much now. In many ways, for me at the moment, its easier and simpler to brew in the garage. Its in the winter. As I have not done it I dont know for sure but Im thinking I dont want windows and doors open in the depths of winter. As I already have a RKV extractor fan, I was thin...

Re: Grainfather first brew - bit of a disaster
Watch the wort coming up to the boil like a hawk from about 95 degrees to 5 mins into rolling boil, hot break and froth need patting / stirring down with a paddle or spraying water. Hey @kingfisher4 I think you may have browsed one too many US forums, the Hot break is when protiens clump up and fal...
