Re: Corny carbonation problems
Without meaning to get into an argument, it does, I've had to do this it twice before with overcarbed kegs Have a look at this video, jump to 7 minutes https://youtu.be/xk79UYGmAk8 The liquid disconnect isn't reversible but the gas disconnect is. If you accidently put the liquid disconnect onto the ...

Re: Corny carbonation problems
If you lift the relief valve to remove any pressure in the keg and then apply a few bursts of co2 to the liquid post, (the gas disconnect fits the liquid post) , with the relief valve on the lid of the keg open, it will act like a stripping column and the co2 traveling up through the beer will strip...

Re: any electrical wizzes? temperature controller query
I've done a few to date, and I now prefer to mount the junction box inside the fridge, I remove the light switch, light fitting and thermostat, they're usually mounted on the one piece of moulded plastic, this gives you a live and neutral supply, plus the switch wire connected to the compressor, dr...

Re: Control Panel Parts List
Another question: Why do people use PIDs rather than STC 1000s to control the elements? Would STC 1000s not also do the job? In one word : deadband. STCs by their design will overshoot the set point temperature, and will then allow the wort to cool too much before applying heat again. So in a mash ...

Re: Glycol
Any solid dissolved in water depresses the freezing point, so dissolving salt or sugar in the water, will lower its freezing point, salt is more corrosive than sugar, the more solid you dissolve the lower the freezing point, up to a saturation point when it will not lower even though more solute is ...

Re: Crash cooling
Be careful not to "suck" the contents of the air lock back into the fermenter when you crash cool, particularly if you've used a blow off tube into a larger bottle/airlock, a pint of starsan mightened be the best addition to your brew

Re: DIY boiler - safety?
I used SWA cable shrouds to cover the kettle connectors. (You can pick them up in electrical suppliers) I have always thought the stripped down kettle elements looked lethal, much better to use a proper kettle element plus note the C15 kettle connector, which is rated higher for temperature and curr...

[quote="LeeH"]In my opinion RIMS is the way to go but it’s subjective. Pros and cons of them both but for my system RIMS was simpler to pipe up and has better control. [quote="chris2012"]Very interesting video! I'm curious if they have a centrifuge, there's something that looked possibly like one to me, where they remove a lid. Re: Pub casks at home: my thoughts so far
Sorry to jump on the back of a thread, but in my case I use small cornies as my casks, I have a 7.5 litre and a few 9 litre kegs. I've cut off about 10mm from the dip tubes. I can usually get through one of these in a week so I haven't had to worry about storage. When pouring I open the pressure rel...
