Re: PH Meter

Is if the meter or do you just need a new probe? Probes don't last.

Re: Full Volume No-Sparge in a GF?

I'm having to rethink some of my plans, small batches excepting occasional beers like a quad aren't going to be enough. I'm going to need to brew at a minimum every 6 weeks (~20litres) plus fit in some smaller batches I want to be overstocked by the start of November. Eric are you able to recommend ...

Re: Full Volume No-Sparge in a GF?

Hi Eric.

Good to hear from you sugar is one of the things I tend to forget and would or will make things much easier especially with respect to some Continental beers.

Re: Full Volume No-Sparge in a GF?

Another option would be to use the 1'st runnings in as much as that applies to GF.

Re: Full Volume No-Sparge in a GF?

Ipa your point about time is exactly why I said I was unsure if its worth making the change. As for effort, I intend to do a number of batches of about 12 litres. Small batches are a lot of effort for little beer so any saving that does not compromise quality becomes a lot more attractive. I don't n...

Re: Full Volume No-Sparge in a GF?

One word - Ease!

I had recirculating biab before the GF and in reality the GF has just replaced a cloth bag with a metal can but as I said I'm not sure I would make a worthwhile saving in time or effort.

The only way to know will be to try if.

Re: Occasionally used water filters.?

I wish I could brew inside but I have a plan this year!

I'll build up stocks through summer and autumn and stay warm inside during the coldest months, bottling is no fun in Jan.

Occasionally used water filters.?

In the kitchen I have a tap fed from a 10" taste and odure water filter but carrying the water out to the garage is harder every year. The filter removes chlorine and any off flavours. I can fit a food grade hose to an outside tap and include another filter But I only brew at most once a month so th...

Re: Full Volume No-Sparge in a GF?

I've done reiterating mashes twice on both occasions the efficiency was low and it was a lot of work, also I don't need 23 litres of 8-10% beer.

Full Volume No-Sparge in a GF?

I'm thinking about it for a small batch of higher gravity beer possibly 12 litre into the FV. Working it out in the GF. Dead Volume.........................3 litre Grain Absorption ....................5 litre (assuming a grain bill of 5kg) Boil Off................................3 litre (90mins) Vol...

Voss Kveik for a big stout?

I'm considering Voss Kveik for a very big stout with an expected ABV in the 10+% region.

The brew will be a parti gyle so the numbers are a little tentative, I'll do a second beer with the weak part of the gyle.

If you have used this yeast can you recommend it for the big stout?

I did a gyle brew some years ago, the time was as you say very long..
