Helpful but too expensive now IMO.
Interesting comment, Lee. Where do you buy your ingredients? Always looking to spend less, me!!

Re: starting all grain brewing

A useful place to look is The Malt Miller . Excellent range of stuff including all the malts, hops, equipment and sundries you could ever want! To give you a good start with all grain you might find it best to try one of the AG kits they offer. There's a huge range. This link takes you to the ale an...

Re: BeerEngine

It should be possible to find them by using the search function on the PC. You know, the little magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the screen.

Best of luck.

MM Fresh wort kit arriving tomorrow

This will be interesting! One of the MM fresh wort kits will be here tomorrow. I've ordered it with a Wyeast 1056 yeast. Plenty of hops for dry hopping already in my freezer. The kit is OG 1.056 for 20 litres. I'll put an extra couple of litres of water into it to drop it to about 1.051. Really look...

Re: Removing chlorine

The Hanna alkalinity checker I use can, apparently, give wrong readings if there is chlorine in the water.

So the brewing water is run into the HLT the day before brewing and left with the top off.

No idea if it really matters, but it's no hardship.

Re: Removing chlorine

My water company, Bournemouth water, has confirmed there is no Chloramine in my water. It's well worth contacting your local water company to ask the question. As to Chlorine, I run the raw water into the HLT 24 hours before brewing, then leave it with the lid off. I think this allows any Chlorine t...

Re: Fresh wort 'kits' from MM

This thread has prompted me to cost out my beer. Something I haven't done for a long time. Very surprised! Here's how it looks. All figures approximate. This isn't for any specific beer, but these are the general ingredients for 22.5 litres/40 pints: Pale malt, 4.5kg £8.5 Other malts, eg Crystal, ca...

Re: Fresh wort 'kits' from MM

"Three weeks"! I better get me bum in gear if I'm going to comply with that request. Hang-on, the "English Lore" option isn't in stock (English? ... they've a cheek when it's exclusively stuffed with American hops). Probably being mashed even as we speak! The cost is roughly twice my what my beers ...

Re: Fresh wort 'kits' from MM

My order won't go in for at least three weeks. You may do one earlier PeeBee. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Fresh wort 'kits' from MM

Has anyone tried one of these? Next order I put in to MM I'll try the one I've linked to. 5.6% is a bit too much for me, so I'll dilute it down to 22 litres. Seems like a bit of a cheat, and at a premium price compared to using grains and hops etc. But has to be worth a go. MM used to sell fresh wor...

Re: Calculating a grain bill from percentages

Best of luck! I hadn't realised GW's Beer Engine would only run on Windows.

I also hadn't realised some people don't use Windows! My IT knowledge is minimal.

Re: Calculating a grain bill from percentages

As a starting point a beer of 1.045 OG will need about 4.5 kilos of grain. You can then use Graham Wheeler's beer engine to work out the fine details. You'll find the GW beer engine on here at: JBK Links>brewing calculators>Graham Wheeler's original beer engine calculator. JBK links is at the top of...

Re: What's Wrong With my Inkbird ITC-308?

A few queries first, if I may. Well, quite a lot of queries really! Have you got the Inkbird set at +/- 0.3 C or +/- 3.0C? I'm guessing the former, but just checking. You say 'it' goes up to 70C. Is that the reading from the Inkbird probe or a separate probe? Where is your Inkbird probe located? How...

Re: Moldy taste from Beer Engine does not go away

Sending the pump back to England and having it „re-refurbished“ is way to expansive in this post Brexit world. I guess I will say a prayer, take the pump apart and have a look inside. There is not much I could ruin anyway… Best of luck! Hadn't realised you weren't in the UK. Let's hope you can buy ...
