Heating and Cooling the wort

So I've done 3 BIAB brews and clearly my biggest time consuming issues are as above. I'm frankly stuck with the heating side of things. I'm still working from a make shift kitchen whilst we redevelop the house, but even then, unless I create a new set-up in the garage (piping gas and water and provi...

Re: Bag support frame

As others have posted, bought the £7 colander from IKEA which sits on top of my 33L pan and works a treat. Only doing 3 gallon brews mind you but seemed sturdy enough to take more 'wet' weight than the 4kg at the weekend

3rd BIAB - getting above myself???

So, with my vast BIAB experience (2 brews as you probably know) I thought let's try and brew something the wife might like - lagerish! But of course that would be too simple wouldn't it - and of course I'd like to think I might fancy a drop as well. The result, my own Czech Pilsner - what else?!? In...

Re: 2nd BIAB brew coming up

OK - thought I'd do an update. Concerned about my cooling method on this one - as you may recall, but all is well. Couldn't resist sampling a very cloudy bottle tonight even though bottled on the 4th and only into the garage to chill from Saturday. Have to say it is my best brew - kit or BIAB, and I...

Re: 2nd BIAB brew coming up

Can i just say I'm a bit stunned at the reads on this - hope that means my blurb is helping someone somewhere! I've updated my First BIAB post by the way tonight as well if you're interested. Anyway, onto BIAB 2.... A confession - I'm a numptie. No surprise there of course but to clarify, idiot brea...

Re: First BIAB brew in the fermenter!!

Although I got a bit carried away with an earlier post ('oh yes' being a bit over the top me thinks) I would like to add something. Bottling my 2nd BIAB this evening (see post updating next) and plucked a couple of bottles out of stock to keep me going through the process. The first was a Coopers Re...

Re: titanic plum porter

Cheers WA Now i have the brew fridge and the inclination to go BIAB, I've been using Hop & Grape in Darlington only 15 miles or so from where I now live. Kevin there has been really helpful and I know he'd be more than happy to put together an exact amount for this or any other recipe. Thoroughly re...

Re: titanic plum porter

Cheers guys Did a tweaked Coopers Blonde with Blackberry some months ago which was OK but not enough fruit coming through. Then did another with Blackcurrant but that was as tart as hell. However, whilst at the pub I reported on and where daughter had the Titanic, I had a Blackcurrant tweaked someth...

Re: 2nd BIAB brew coming up

1st Jan update. Down to 2012 and smells really good. It does have something like unfermented yeast floating on the surface. Can't see it can be and doesn't appear to be affected in any way - had a nip from the trial jar and by far the best brew i've tasted at this stage. Added 15g of cascade as a la...

titanic plum porter

Daughter had a pint of this at our local over Xmas. Had a taste and very impressed - particularly compared to my berried blonde attempts. Anyone had a go at this and can recommend a recipe?

Bottle carbing a lager

Previously posted advising brewing a Wilko Pilsner for the son-in-law to be - being my first brew in my brew fridge. Happy with FG, dry hopped with Saaz and will have been sat at 2 degrees for 4 days come Tuesday. My question is the correct carbing for 500ml bottles at that temperature? Only calcula...

Re: First BIAB brew in the fermenter!!

To paraphrase Juror number 4 (12 Angry Men - best film ever made!) - "I'm convinced".

I also think however that my remaining years are going to be filled with the search for the perfect BIAB brew. Still, I can think of far worse ways of spending your time and money!!

Re: 2nd BIAB brew coming up

2nd brew in the FV Saturday. Did it my way so to speak so we'll have to see whether I've avoided the dreaded infection. Decided to use hot water through the CH boiler - that speeded up the start. Then mashed for 75 minutes - boiled for 75 minutes. Total from 1st jug of hot water into the pan to end ...

2nd BIAB brew coming up

Well as there has been nothing on here for a week and a half I thought I'd better post something. My 1st brew is conditioning and although I should leave well alone to give it the best chance possible to impress - and keep me on this rather dark and dangerous road, I will be sampling a bottle on Xma...
