Re: Kombucha

Anybody here into making this stuff? I've made it myself in the past, Jim. It's a bit of an acquired taste, can get very sharp and vinegary the longer you leave it. I cultured my own scoby (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast) from an unpasteurized bottle I bought from an organic shop on Heaton...

Re: Using Pellets for the First Time

It's always been a sludgy disaster for me in the GF. I exclusively use bags/socks for pellets. Not sure on the efficiency drop but I never had any success without, so have nothing to gauge against.

Re: Crossmyloof Brewery Dry Yeast

I've used their Høg Nørsk yeast in a smash and it ferments fast and clean. Really liked it and bought a few more packets for future brews. How long did it take to ferment out? Did you go for the top range of 27c? The whole reason I used it was because I had another brew on the go in my temp control...

Re: Wilko`s Red Ale for Cwrw Gwent........

Where do you find the Wilko's kit? Sounds bloody brilliant Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk I might be wrong but i think Wilko would be your best bet. Edit: I've just noticed you're a South African and probably don't have Wilko stores. If you have any British relatives, ask if they'll send you ...

Re: Pros and Cons?

Mine's taken many a knock and been going 3/4 years. It's a solid and reliable bit of kit and, despite a few small gripes, I'd still recommend getting one.

Re: Belgian tripel germolene smell/taste

That makes a lot of sense. Good job I don't mind the taste but I think I'll have to invest in a decent filter for future Belgian endevours. I brew outside so I'll have to try to find one that connects to an outside tap or hoselock fitting.

Thanks all for the sound advice as always.

Re: Belgian tripel germolene smell/taste

I clean with VWP, rinse with cleab water and sanitize with starsan. No filtering Used Mangrove Jacks Belgian Tripel yeast. I've never had this taste before and my technique is always the same. The only thing I can think is the groundwater was a bit warmer than usual and I pitched a couple of degree...

Cacao Nibs

I have an export stout in the fermenter at the moment and the Mrs picked up a 250g bag of cacao nibs for 60p (reduced from £6) in Morrison's. I've read a few posts on here about using them in a beer and the consensus seems to be the more, the merrier so I'm planning on lobbing the whole bag into sec...

Belgian tripel germolene smell/taste

I've recently made a Belgian Tripel and it has a distinct smell and taste of germolene. It hits you quite strongly at first and then dissipates after a few sips. The strange thing is, I really like it. I've had a fair few tripels and only a couple have had a hint of this taste. Is this an "off" flav...

Re: Brut ipa

Never made one but I've tasted a few and they're quite nice. Before they were a 'thing', the Wild Beer Co (UK) did a beer called Brett Brett IPA that was dry as sticks and bloody lovely too. I've watched a few YouTube vids on them but all the extra enzymes and whatnot seem like a lot more room for e...
