I found the scale on my hydrometer quite difficult to read so bought a refractometer for brew day and a finishing hydrometer for the end of fermentation.

Drinking this now Rob. Many thanks for the recipe. It tastes fantastic. Just a lovely hint of orange without being overpowering [emoji482]

Re: Pros and Cons?
I went from brew in a bag (home made boiler/mash tun) to three vessel (picnic cooler mash tun + buffalo boiler) to Braumeister and definitely wouldn’t go back. My only regret was not splashing out for the BM at the start as I lost a fair bit of money trading up each time. For some, building the brew...

Re: It's been a long time coming.......
Nothing wrong with clones. Making a clone is always a good starting point because you know the final result, even if it’s not exactly like the original, will be drinkable. After making a clone, and for future brews I will use the original recipe but tweak the bitterness or abv or substitute a little...

Re: Weatheroak Hill Brewery / Sunshine Marmalade 4.7%
I’m brewing this in the next few days too (as soon as I’ve bottled the ESB on the go now). Incidentally, Brewdog did a series of tests to determine the best temperature for dry hopping and the result was 14 degrees. I now do this with all my beers and it seems to work well. I still can’t decide whet...

Re: Weatheroak Hill Brewery / Sunshine Marmalade 4.7%
Thanks Rob, I normally just weigh leaf hops down in a hop bag but I’ve heard that if you wizz them up in a blender and toss them in loose they pack down into the trub when chilling prior to kegging.
I’ll give it a go [emoji482]

Re: Weatheroak Hill Brewery / Sunshine Marmalade 4.7%
Hi Rob,
Ordered the ingredients today to give this a bash but could only get leaf hops for the dry hop. Would you use the same amount or should I bung the. Whole 200 grams in?
Not sure how pellets compare to leaf when dry hopping.

Re: Weighing down a hop bag
I chuck in half a dozen stainless steel teaspoons. For some reason we’ve got loads of them. I boil them with the hop bags for 10 minutes to sterilise them.

I’ve been meaning to buy this for ages. Luckily I just picked up a 1990’s copy from a used bookseller for £3.99.

Re: Weighing down a hop bag
We’ve got loads of stainless steel tea spoons so I chuck a handful of those in.
I put them in the hop bag and boil the bag and spoons for 10 or 15 minutes first to sterilise.

Re: What yeast for Old Peculier
The back treacle was not used for priming but added towards the end of the boil.
