Re: New indoor brewery and 'cellar'

Wow!!
My current aspiration to convince my wife I need to install a brewing fridge to control fermentation more precisely looks rather trivial in comparison, but will hopefuly be achievable sometime in the next few months. You have set the bar incredibly high; congratulations.

Re: Water to garage

When Virgin were installing pipes / tubing for enabling fibre broadband on our properties, with awkward access, they considered using their mole technology but were put off by potentially damaging any unknown existing pipes or cables etc. The same may apply elsewhere.

Re: Grainfather filter vs hop pellets

A combination of whole hops and the upward facing cup in the grainfather hop filter gave me an amazing yield of clear wort yesterday. Thank you again for the tip. A recipe for Sarah Hughes dark ruby mild using a total of 90 g hops was aiming for 23 L in the FV. After the boil there was 26 L in the G...

Re: SG of finished beer

Coincidently, I did exactly the same thing with my most recent two Brews when they seemed much too gassy for the final gravity and tiny amount of priming sugar. They were also 1.006 and 1.004 having been bottled at 1.012 and 1.010. I have assumed that the horrible hot weather for the last six weeks ...

Re: Is Golden Promise stickier than other malts?

From my limited experience of several brews each with both golden promise and Maris Otter in a Grainfather, I did not notice any difference in stickiness, or extraction efficiency between the two.

The freshness of the milled malt may be an issue?

Re: Marris Otter alternative

Would it be fair to guess that using MO malts has more to do with tradition and perhaps even snob value than flavour?

It will be interesting to see whether I can tell any difference between the Crisp pale malt just received from MM and the previous MO brews.

I suspect not!

Re: Homebrew shop Derbyshire Nottinghamshire all-grain

Hi all I've recently relocated to Derby. I'm an all grain brewer over 10 years, looking for a good homebrew shop for hops and malts. I cant find a shop locally through the net but I cant believe this to be true due to the vast number of breweries on the doorstep. Can anyone recommend a local suppli...

Re: Hose pipe ban

It's not a complete ban, it's restrictions e.g. https://www.unitedutilities.com/globalassets/documents/tubfinalweb1.pdf There are eleven restrictions and cooling isn't on the list. Warm water can be collected and put in your water but. There is a statutory exemption for health and safety. I reckon ...

Re: Mosaic Pale Ale.

Brewed a Mosaic single hop IPA myself recently (meh to all this using Magnum to bitter business) with 150g of Mosaic in there (50g of that been the dry hop, 53.4g at flame out) and it's absolutely delicious. Me, I say don't be scared to go single hop. There's a reason the Greg Hughes book has a who...

Re: Weird Beersmith 3 water behaviour

That might be something worth adding to the water treatment pages if some knowledgeable and willing person could do some sort of write up..... The following in no way reflects on this particular posting. I wouldn't have answered in the first place had that been so. The problem is Jim that it won't ...

Re: Bottle sizes

Do you have temperature control for the conditioning bottles?? If not I would "under"carb; my last 3 brews (bitters) have over carbonated despite the very small amount of priming DME, compared to previous batches as ambient temps in the shady garage have reached 20-24 degrees over the last month plus!

Re: Weird Beersmith 3 water behaviour

If you can do the sums, why do you complicate matters using other peoples software to learn their bad habits? Eric, Would you mind pointing us to a relatively simple water treatment thread on the forum for those of us who might prefer to do our own calculations, with the basic but essential knowled...

Re: Demise of Hop and Grape

I don’t have a LHBS anywhere near, so it is Internet orders for me, with some excellent and some not so good service so far over the last year. This thread made me reflect, although slightly more expensive, particularly with the delivery: recommendations on the forum, advice over the phone and range...
