Re: Recommend a Lager-like ale?

Hi, This is a 10 year old thread. Most of the original posters are showing as "anonymous" which means they are no longer active unless they have rejoined under a different name. However, I am quite partial to a pint of Schiehallion occasionally. Don't think many of my lager drinking buddies would li...

Re: Kveik

I recently brewed my 100th beer (thread in Brewdays section) and coincidentally used Mangrove Jack's Voss Kveik yeast to ferment it. Fermented at 35C in a fermentation fridge it was a strange experience. Opening the fridge to be met by a heatwave was unnerving to say the least. I didn't find that it...

Re: Hundreåring

Bottled today. FG was 1.015 against a predicted 1.013. That makes it 5.5% abv plus a point or two for priming. Sample tastes very promising.

Re: Hundreåring

Took my first gravity reading today after 3 full days of fermentation. Bubbling had stopped through the blow-off tube. Gravity is down to 1.018 from 1.057, so 68.4% apparent attenuation. I would expect a bit more from this yeast so it probably hasn't finished yet even with the extreme temperatures i...

Re: Hundreåring

Yeast pitched at 35C! Very strange pitching at this temp. The fermenter feels warm to the touch! Somewhat unnerving to say the least!

Re: Hundreåring

Brewday today. Bad start to the mash when it overshot to 69C. I really need to get the PID dialled in. Recirculated until it dropped to 64C and left it at that to finish. Original plan was mash at 65C. Pretty smooth from there on in though. Hit a pre-boil gravity of 1.044 which was 87.2% efficiency ...

Re: Mangrove Jack's Voss Kveik

Thanks for the info. Not too worried about clarity, as long as it tastes good.

Re: Crossmyloof Brewery Dry Yeast

I've recently used the Beoir yeast in 3 beers. Apparent Attenuation ranged from 72-76%. Taste wise I would say they were excellent with hops coming through nicely, yet still good malt flavour. First two were bottled, but quickly became overcarbed even though I reduced the amount of priming sugar in ...

Re: Mangrove Jack's Voss Kveik

Packet says for optimal results ferment at 30-40C so maybe I will try to get it nearer to the upper range.

Re: Hundreåring

cm, 200grs of cascade in 23lts! :D :D WA Seems a lot, but low alpha. I brewed a similar beer (Durden Park recipe) using just pale malt and loads of Fuggles (no flameout hops though). Turned out really good. Took a little bit of time for the flavours to fully meld together, but surprisingly nice onc...

I've used Proper Job yeast a few times myself. Works well.

Re: Bragdy Conwy?

Had a look at their website. They appear to be a micropub so I would be surprised if they are not just using dried yeast such as Nottingham or US-05.

Mangrove Jack's Voss Kveik

Hi, I am planning a brew soon (my 100th) using Mangrove Jack's Voss Kveik yeast. (Post started in Brewdays). I was wondering if anyone has had experience of using it. My plan is to try and ferment at about 30C, but not sure if my fermentation fridge with tube heater will be up to the task of keeping...
