Maybe it's down to the yeast supplied with kits? I always use Notty and find it cleans off the FV very easily. Also settles out pronto and generally behaves itself. Can't beat it,really.

I think you could be right on all three counts, oldbloke. Especially the first one - will try that next time I'm shopping for sundries.

Mine does that every time, looks like dirty cotton wool balls just under the surface. It's just yeast and a sign that it's having a GOOD TIME in its new home.

I think its a great bittering hop for any beer and an IPA with 60+ IBUs mainly from target was one of the best beers I have made.
