Re: Any good low ABV recipes out there?
Made a nice 3.4%er for the pub a few weeks ago. Maris Otter + 10% caramalt, 30 IBU and a big centennial dry hop. Us-05 yeast mashed high. The only real factor to consider is yeast attenuation. It's possible that a beer can taste more or less the same at 3% or 5% if the attenuation is right - use Or...

Re: Any good low ABV recipes out there?
Great, thanks very much. Will be interested if any others have similar ideas.
Only been brewing for 9 months and collecting books for about 18 months so haven’t got any old ones.
Would appreciate any recipes very much.

Any good low ABV recipes out there?
I have tried the search functions, but unfortunately the key words seem too common to work; so apologies if there are threads already posted, direction to them would be great. I would really like to try a choice of all grain recipes with low ABV of around 3% or so, but good flavour and body to the b...

Re: Danstar Nottingham
One of the other threads previously stated that Wilko Gervin English Ale Yeast is identical to Danster Nottingham, in different packaging.
Can anyone who has used both confirm this, as the Wilko version is half the price?

Re: Grainfather - first impressions
Underletting sounds a great idea compared to the faff of balancing a 5kg malt bag, tipping it slowly whilst stirring solo.
Fine malt dust always fills the utility room with my usual method.

Re: Grainfather - first impressions
Great to see different solutions.
Essentially either need to expand the grain tube diameter or reduce that of the plate and seal slightly and lubricate with water.

Re: Grainfather - first impressions
The only one of your bad points that you can potentially remedy is the seal on the bottom plate. I run hot water from the tap around the inside of the grain tube before trying to put the bottom plate in place. If you initially slide the plate in at right angles to its final position and then gently ...

Re: Smoked red ale recipe
I brewed a smoked beer at the weekend - used 25% smoked malt, munich (15%) and cara munich (5%) and the rest pale malt. Northern Brewer hops about 25g at the start and another 25 on flameout. As its freezing cold at present I decided to run with a bog standard lager yeast. We should compare notes m...

Excuse my ignorance, but haven't come across Vermont dried yeast before; manufacturer would help track it down to try please. The only place I have seen doing is here . I have tried it which worked fine. For the price of it though I prefer to just buy the liquid and culture from that but appreciate...

Re: Grainfather Conical Fermentor - newbie questions
I have mine set up with a cool box and frozen water bottles and the cooling pump kit. The pump is an additional noise but you may be able to muffle that with a better set up. Would you mind elaborating on the dual use of the integral heater and cooling pump via your set up above please? If the grai...
