Re: Coopers Ginger Beer

Just an update on this, started at 1.030 , finished at 1.002, !!!!. [although there is still a dubious amount of small froth lurking],i would say giving it an alcohol content of around 4%.I did reduce the water down to 4 gallons. If instructions are followed with the required amount of water it shoul...

Coopers Ginger Beer

It would be interesting to know if anyone out there has tried this kit?. The tin states it should come out at around 3,5%. Brewing one at the moment, started off with a low Gravity of 1.30 and just checked after 5 days and its down to 1.08 but its still got a heavy head of bubbles, could be interestin...

Re: New kit tested St Peters Red Ruby Ale

Just sampling my second attempt of this kit and the reults are a little better, using 1 level teaspoon of sugar to prime[bottled], giving a better head, but froth still does not stay as much as i would have liked. Overall, a pleasant/decent drink with a good hopped flavour throughout, but as far as kit...

Adding honey to a kit?

Just put on another kit of Colne Valley Bitter, but will wait until tomorrow to pitch yeast [ as i put too much hot water in by mistake]. I was pondering about putting in a jar of honey appx 500grms,to try and give a honey flavoured beer. Looking through a few topics regarding honey it looks like a l...

Re: New kit tested St Peters Red Ruby Ale

Some interesting replies already on this new kit.Supping as i type and still get that initial watery taste but the hopped flavour shines through. The head is still pretty poor and needs to be poured high. Brewing wise ,fermentation was spot on ,started at appx 1.044 and finished at appx 1.008-1.010 a...

New kit tested St Peters Red Ruby Ale

Hi to all that has brewed this new kit. Decided to follow the instructions to the letter as its a new kit. Brewed then bottled. Results are, in my opinion, a watery taste initially with a good hopped flavour afterwards. Pouring wise, i would say theres a problem here,as you have to pour high to get ...

Re: Whats the strength of my IPA?

Tried this one ,same set up, not to put you off, but a bit acidic for my liking, but everyones taste is different.
Mine came out at 3.9%.
As a comparison try brupaks fixby gold with the same spraymalt,i think you will be impressed, tried quite a few kits but without doubt this is the best to date.

Re: Can i brew in the fermentation bin without a airlock

I,ve allways just covered the bin with a freshly laundered t,towel tied with coated garden wire , never had a problem.
As previously mentioned, a hydrometer is your main tool for checking fermentation.

Re: Fixby Gold Sugar...?

I,ll add to that.
Actually drinking the above mentioned fixby gold brewed with added spray malt, primed with 1/2 tspoon normal sugar in bottles ,a cracking pint.
Theres some good advice on this friendly site, its all about trial and error.
Patience my friend is the answer.

I would just like to thank you 3 chaps for the replies, your experience/knowledge is priceless,if you could bottle it [excuse the pun !]it would be worth a fortune.
Will keep the forum informed of the final results of this new kit once matured.

Adding more yeast or different yeast towards the end.

HI, Just a quick question regarding yeast.Eagerly awaited the st peters ruby red ale kit and put it on last fri 13/11 original gravity appx 1.044. Used safe ale yeast as my preferred choice instead of the kit yeast as it has never failed. Steady temp at 20-22dgrs. Checked tonight sun and gravity has...
