Thanks for that.
Makes a lot more sense now.
Just put it on the Grainfather app and it now shows the bittering from the late hops.

Re: DIY dog - recipe errors? Hazy Jane
You make some good points.Follow the recipe and trust it, those chunky flameout additions will add quite a lot of bitterness.
However, what is the point of a 1g addition at 10 minutes? It will not add anything. That's why I don't trust the recipe.

DIY dog - recipe errors? Hazy Jane
I picked up a few cans of Brewdog Hazy Jane the other day and really enjoyed them. Thought I would have a go and making a batch myself but when I looked in DIY Dog, the hop quantities are completely wrong. The beer has 30 IBU but the only hop addition before flame out is 1g of Chinook! This is the h...

Re: Secondary fermentation in a polypin
They are currently at a cool room temperature. Just checked the actual temperature of the beer and it is 16C.

Secondary fermentation in a polypin
So I have 2 batches of bitter in polypins, they will be dispensed through my beer engine. I have primed with brewing sugar and they have started secondary fermentation nicely. If I don't vent them, will the CO2 be absorbed by the beer or could it burst the polypin? Previously when using polypins and...

Re: Another reusing dry yeast question.....
Well that went like a rocket!
Yeast from a London Pride clone onto a hoppy single malt ale and over night the krausen is very thick, wavy and high.
I'll be doing it again in the next couple of weeks.

Re: Protofloc at beginning of boil - what will it do?
A whole tablet will treat 100 litres effectively. Using too much ends up with fluffy bottoms in the fermenter. It's always surprised me that they're not made into 23 litre sized tablets for the HB market. It is strange. I sometimes get Graham Wheeler recipe packs from the Worchester Hop Shop, very ...

Re: Protofloc at beginning of boil - what will it do?
Only about 1/2 tablet at the beginning and about 1/3 at 5 minutes. Not sure what you mean by this. Do you usually add the Protafloc in two lots (1/2 then a 1/3), or is that just what happened today? If you're using the Protafloc tablets like those supplied by Crossmyloof then 0.5-0.7g is sufficient...

Re: Protofloc at beginning of boil - what will it do?
The Grainfather is pumping very slow, so I think there has been a little too much!

Re: Protofloc at beginning of boil - what will it do?
Ooops!! From the Crossmyloof ebay info about protafloc: "When to add and how much to use? Protafloc Tablets should be added to the kettle five minutes prior to the end of the boil or to the whirlpool if this is not possible. This allows the powder to dissolve and disperse the carrageenan into the w...

Protofloc at beginning of boil - what will it do?
Just got a brew on and was getting my protofloc ready to go with my 15min additions.
Without thinking I dropped it in the boil, at about 57 minutes!
What will it do?
Will I still need to add some at 15 minutes as normal?

Re: IPA brewday vid
That's the most complex brewing set up I have ever seen!
@Tarmac has it.
Beer is simple. Keep it simple.
I guess you enjoy building and playing with the electronics as much as the brewing itself?

Another reusing dry yeast question.....
So, I have a little lockdown production line running. Planning the next few batches, it will be easy to be kegging a batch on the same day as brewing another. After kegging, can I simply take a couple of hundred ML of the yeast cake and remaining wort and pitch it into the next batch? Will that work?

Re: Cost comparison - kits and grain brewing
Yours, LeeH, made me hoot, and looking at cost of gobuchul's Grainfather kit, I believe it. It's all about scale when it comes down to it. The more you brew, the cheaper it gets. :D :D :D :D Since the lockdown, I have stocked up on supplies and started banging out brews. I currently have 80 pints k...
