Grr, that's getting close ... but, no, I'm not going to be drawn (... just yet).

Re: Aerator paddle?
... Also want this for mixing sugar block. Now there's a thing. Dissolving sugar block in the boiler? Some will say you shouldn't aerate hot wort, but I think this is over-cautious twaddle? Stirring in late additions of sugar sounds a fine "second" use of them whisks. I use syrups, but they still n...

Re: Aerator paddle?
A good find, although if you believe the BAC videos on their oxygenation device, you are probably limited to the amount of dissolved O2 that you can achieve without any Venturi effect. I'd never heard of these "BAC Oxygenator turboventuri", so had to start with a bit of revision. The amount of diss...

Re: Now I have capacity, casking ales?
I use a method of "emulating" cask conditioned beer out of Corny kegs or any suitable container that takes a tiny bit of pressure, to get around the time limits of actual cask beer (i.e. the limit of; you need to drink it in 3-5 days). But you need one of >these< to handle the very low pressures (wh...

Re: Fullers ESB 'Can you brew it'
Cracking! I've got a Fuller's ESB clone on hand-pump at the moment, derived from "The Jamil Show" but I used black malt to get the right colour; next time I'll use Chocolate as it's been hi-lighted as the actual means of colour adjustment. It doesn't surprise me that the recipe has changed to includ...

Re: Has anyone compared heirloom barley to m o?
Ah, the Lovibond 1864 XB in his (RP's) book, not the Web site (no sign of XB there). One of the ones I've just done is Morrell's 1889 Bitter from Edd's now defunct Website ... the Lovibond XB should make a good replacement? Considerably more hops, but the malt should handle that. The Morrell's is j...

Re: Has anyone compared heirloom barley to m o?
... Good morning PeeBee Could you clarify what you mean by dextrin adverse and aggressive yeasts. Is this just about attenuation levels are you referring to some other element. Chevallier's not cheap and I certainly want to get the best out of it. Aye, it's me referring to "attenuation" in somewhat...

Re: Has anyone compared heirloom barley to m o?
The Lovibond "X" range were "Ales" that were amongst those replacing "Porters" as the preferred alcoholic malt drink in the 19th century. They were sold "mild" (unaged) and the last examples of "Ale" in Britain. They were hopped ales, but typically had less hops than beers about then (like porter); ...

I've been waiting for this stuff to make an appearance: Table Malt. The Malt Miller list it now but its showing "out-of-stock".

Re: False bottom for Grainfather
For goodness sake just use a Hop Spyder and a bit of a whirlpool. Aamcle, I think you should have said `FFS` instead of `for goodness sake`. :D The Yarpies will understand that much better! :D WA Hm, "Yarpie"? Difficult one that, originally South African slang and a derogatory term for a white Sout...

For goodness sake just use a Hop Spyder and a bit of a whirlpool. Aamcle I think you've got to come up with something a bit better than that. Get the wrong hop spider - it won't work! Try creating a whirlpool in a boiler full of attachments (a sticky-out element for instance, rather than a "flat" c...

Re: Backup Pump?
I'm saying nothing; in case I jinx the setup I've established. But I wont be using such "testing" quantities of hops again until the new year. The 800 micron hop-spiders for pellets sounds a worthy ploy? I've only used 300 micron mesh and they retain the pellet sludge ... along with several litres o...

Re: False bottom for Grainfather
I went about the problem from a slightly different angle, and wrote it up here: https://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=83492#p859970 Might turn up some more useful ways of tackling the issue? But be warned, I do get a bit shirty when talking about hop pellets (whoever thought they w...
