Re: Sealed Fermentation
I'd be surprised if the ambient temp is above 18C just because of the towels but could be. Some good information here https://byo.com/article/controlling-fermentation-temperature-techniques/ Also keep in mind that the heat generated by an active fermentation can warm a typical 5-gallon (19-L) batch...

Re: Sealed Fermentation
My guess would be that it fermented more vigorously at a higher temperature. The process of fermenting generates heat, so if it was well insulated, then it would of got quite warm, fermented faster and generated more heat. A bit of a chain reaction.

Hazy wort from pellets in Grainfather
First time I have used all pellets for a brew in my Grainfather. 250g of low AA Saaz pellets. The wort was incredibly cloudy, I have never seen anything when using an immersion chiller, as I guess that the pellet sediment drops out as part of the cold break, which doesn't happen with a counterflow c...

Sorted. Just doing a Saaz lager, with pale malt, as per my other thread. Using grain from The Malt Miller. Used the underletting method suggested by ciderhead and the +2 litre mash/-2 litre sparge by Kingfisher. Drained nicely and the sparge rate was perfect. I guess it was the over crushed grain ca...

Re: Blocked Pump !
I must admit I think the filter design on the Grainfather is a bit crap. For the money, you would think that it would have a screw fitting rather than a rubber bung. Also there should be a more connection to the pump, a clip or similar. However, saying that, I have never had a problem with it as a u...

Pale malt in a lager recipe?
Going through my stocks and I have a load of Saaz hop pellets I forgot all about.
I have lager yeast but no pilsner malt, only pale.
I know it will be slightly darker but will it make any significant difference to the flavour if just brew with the pale?

Re: Garinfather - underletting and a thin mash. Still stuck¬
The malt was from The Home Brew Company. I have a feeling it was over crushed. The bottom filter plate seemed to have a lot of holes blocked by very fine particles. Funnily enough, the first few brews were from the Worchester Hop Shop. I had no problem with them. I have had them sitting for months a...

Garinfather - underletting and a thin mash. Still stuck¬
Had problems with very slow drain and sparge on my Grainfather. A thinner mash was suggested, add 2 litres to the mash, remove 2 litres from sparge water. Pre-loading the grain basket and underletting was also suggested, seemed a really good idea, eliminates malt dust from the brewing area. Everythi...

Very slow sparge/stuck mash on Grainfather
I am on brew number 7 with my Grainfather.
For some reason, on the last 2 I have had a mash that is very slow to drain and sparge. Not completely "stuck" but very slow.
Any tips for avoiding this?

Re: Ordered a Brewie! Have any good recepies?
Does it really clean itself? do you have to get involved as I really hate the cleaning side of brewing This really interested me as well. Found this video on youtube and I think the answer is no. It's very similar to cleaning a Grainfather, easier than a 3 pot system but I wouldn't call it "self-cl...

Re: Equipment Advice
Are you going to be large batches? If so, a spare FV and a set of bathroom scales is good for weighing large quantities of grain.

Low CO2 pressure on new cylinder
Hi Connected up my new CO2 cylinder today. First time I have CO2 for 18mths. It had been left outside overnight and was fairly cold. However, the pressure seems very low. I know that CO2 isn't like a lot of other gas and the pressure isn't an accurate representation of contents but I can't remember ...

Grainfather - first impressions
Well finally got to brew with my Grainfather yesterday. First impressions: Bad A lot of money for what it is! (But I knew that before I bought it) Why is there no handle for the lid? Pump should be bigger and controllable. A 2nd connection for the pump, so you can connect a HLT for sparging, would b...

If you right click on your image, you should get an option to "copy image address".
You then need to use the full editor, then click on the insert image icon, then you should get this " ", paste the image address in the space between the square brackets.

Re: Oxygen set up
How much do you use?
They sell the small cans on Ebay and it works out at about £1 per litre.
It could be an expensive way to boost your fermentation if you need a few litres each time.
