I agree with the above, Bobek is a lovely hop and I use it all the time, I tried Savinjski once and didn't like it.jaroporter wrote:yup bobek for me. or celeia if you can't get it. definitely not savinjski though for me

Re: Plastic brewing kit - end of its life?
I personally think plastic does have a end of life, I had a FV that had persistent brew failures whatever I did to clean/sterilise it, the only answer was replacement and then on no problems.

Why? beer does not need gooseberries. Beer is malt hops and water!

Re: Carbonation moves sediment?
Why is it overlooked? In my opinion it is vital. To quote once again. "IF YOU WANT CLEAR BEER COMING OUT YOU NEED CLEAR BEER GOING IN" Not my words but so very true. I get perfectly clear beer without racking to secondary, so I don't see the point. Same here, 7 to 10 days top in the FV and then bot...

Re: Carbonation moves sediment?
Simple, use Gervin/Nottingham yeast, sticks to the bottom of the bottle and never moves. I never waste a drop when I pour and never cloudy.

Re: Pellet or Leaf - which do you use and why
Both for me, but never pellets on their own as always need the leaf hop to help filter. Ratio of up to 40% hops seems to work fine with my filter which is just copper tube with holes in the bottom covered in a nylon bag.

Re: Pellet Hops versus Leaf Hops
I have given up dry hopping, the way for real hoppy flavours is to drink the beer sooner. I am drinking my latest brew which was bottled under a week ago, the Nottingham yeast clears in days and carbonation only needs to be light. Flavour from the late aroma hops have had no time to fade and shine t...

Re: 2-row grain?
All UK barley for malting will be 2 row, there being around four approved winter barleys and half a dozen or so approved spring varieties. There are several older outclassed varieties still grown as well. All six row in the UK will be for feed and not suitable for malting. For information on varieti...

Don't bother to check, just enjoy the resulting beer.. that's what I do. Never bother to take the OG and just take what comes.

Re: How to use wild hops....
My opinion is why bother, hops you buy are so cheap and you know everything about them. My hedgerow next to me is covered in hops and I am not tempted to try them, all that effort for a brew might be wasted for a pound or two.

Re: Why so different - pressure barrel Vs bottle?
I gave up kegs years ago, bottled beer always tasted better than barreled beer and good to the last bottle. With the old quart bottles it only takes an hour to bottle and clean 10 gallons.

Use the compression nut and olive, I have used a hop and grape copper pipe filter on a plastic tap like this for years.

One of these is what you need for a secure fit that will not come off.
