Re: Feedback on recipe

Brew day today and I've updated the recipe following the feedback.

I'm now going to bitter with Cascades and then aroma with Amarillos.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: comparisons of different fermentation set ups

I moved to an SS Brewtech Chronical last year so have around 10 brews under my belt with it now. Drawbacks: More expensive than a plastic bin which was my previous kit. Cant see what's happening without unclipping the lid. Benefits: Easy to clean. Allows removal of some of the trub, although I'm not...

Re: Harsh bitter Taste at end of flavour profile

My solution was, as others have said, basic water treatment. Camden tablets first then adjust the water ph - nothing more so far. My beers are now more balanced and lack aftertastes.

Re: Feedback on recipe

Smashing. Although I think the orange from Amarillo would compliment a hefeweizen better than grapefruit from cascade and use Amarillo for dryhopping and Cascade for bittering. Purely personal though. If you really wanted to throw a curveball you could split ferment and do one half with US05 and he...

Feedback on recipe

Hi Folks. I'm planning a wheat beer this weekend. I'm trying to make a variation on the normal (so something different) inspired by my wife who likes American beers (she is American after all). Wonder what people think to the following: Aiming for 4.5% ABV, 25 IBU (so not too bitter) with lots of ci...

How often do you strip a corny?

I've been cleaning mine after every use with oxyclean then starsan.

I see some suggest stripping them each time. Seems a little OTT to me.

Is there a happy medium? Every 3 brews etc.?

Look forward to some lively discussions.

Mash duration and efficiency

Does anyone know how mash duration affects efficiency?

Should the ideal mash be an hour or 90 minutes, or does it depend on what you are trying to achieve?

Re: Am I doing something wrong......

The new regulator arrived today (nice bit of kit) and I've installed it.

Instant difference. Set it to about 6psi and it holds. No creeping up, no constantly tweeking. Roll on a decent session so I can test it properly

Re: Am I doing something wrong......

The beer was coming out the safety valve on the top of the keg. Minimal research after the event, suggests these release pressure at around 130psi. The pressure was off the scale on the gauge (in the red) and the gauge was only open a tiny amount. Good news, if any - it pressure tested all the John ...

Re: Am I doing something wrong......

Got back after a bike ride yesterday, with a mate of mine, ready for a brief mid week session. Turned the gas on, turned the pressure regulator to the desired pressure and poured 2 lovely pints. Went back for second helpings to find the contents of the keg all over the fridge and cellar floor :x :x...

Re: Wheat beer improvements requested

I've tried many times and the best result I get is with a really good yeast strain.

I love White Lab's WLP380 as a personal choice.

Is it okay to turn the cylinder off?

Once the beer is carbed, can the gas cylinder be turned off until dispense is required? Should I disconnect the connector or just turn off at the cylinder?

I have to go away for work and don't want to come home to find an empty cylinder - for whatever reason.

Re: Am I doing something wrong......

Now it's chilled down it seems to have settled. Nicely carbed and perfect considering the 32' temp outside..... Result [emoji481][emoji481][emoji481]
