Re: Dry-Hopping advice wanted
There are so many ideas out there, I really think it comes down to personal perception and what you think works best. Personally, and like Alex, I prefer to add to the primary, but when only fermentation has completed and the beer is crash cooling. This is because yeast will attach itself to the var...

OK so that's just nuts!
They shouldn't be starting to burr for another couple of months at least. Can you post another pic in a couple of weeks please. Crazy stuff.

Re: Hop Growing 2017
Started quickly but lost some momentum. Nugget is struggling a bit, but Centennial and Columbus are doing ok. Columbus even has a few cones starting, which is far too early. Re: AMS consistency
Sorry for stating the obvious but do you check your raw liquor every time? It can vary somewhat. Also Murphys conduct their evaluation differently to others. I had a report back that stated the Raw Ph was 6.5, I measured it a 7.7. Something to do with how they measure the ions in the water to ascert...

Re: Pilgrim recipes please!
Sits well in most styles, but I've found the best is a darker beer, not necessarily a stout or porter but a rich best bitter with dark crystal or chocolate malt additions.
FWH if you use for bittering as it can be a bit harsh. But as much as you like at 15mins and flame out.

Fair play for trying such a big beer on your new kit. Should turn out well.

Re: Russian Imperial Stout - First Recipe
Assuming you're still to brew this a couple of things. Firstly don't waste Bramling Cross on a RIS. Any flavour you think you might get will be lost. As a rule only a bittering addition is required of around 70-90IBU's. Go for a higher AA% hop such as Pilgrim or Admiral. If you know how, stop the m...

Re: Hop Growing 2017
Yeah my alloment is a bit too open for that I think :) I decided to cut the shoots back. They were pretty much hollow and snapped really easily, so at this stage I'm glad I did. I also put a bunch of cut shoots straight into a pot, be interesting to see if any root. I'm not expecting them too tbh h...

Re: Single Hop IPA's
I know its a bit out there but why not try some English hops. In particular, Bullion, Challenger, Endeavour and Minstrel. They will all stand they're own if used properly.

Re: Russian Imperial Stout - First Recipe
The hop contribution does matter, i recently had a bottle of my 8% American stout which was 18 months old hopped late with only 30g of centennial and that flavour still came through. One of my RIS tasted great after only a month in the bottle and although different two years on is not necessarily b...

They have lemonade don't they? Sod them and brew for yourself!
Sorry, not helpful. Recipe looks grand but as already said, some late hopping would be appropriate. English Cascade?

Re: Measuring AA% for home grown hops
Answered your own question really. As you know AA% vary year to year. It seems that hot sunny weather late into the season before picking increases the AA content, so if this is the case base your figures at the higher end of the range and vice versa. It also depends on the ripeness of the hop, as i...
