Re: Lager fermentation advice

I could've sworn I replied earlier in this thread but it's gone now. I ramp mine up by 1 degree every 12 hours once fermentation is over 50% complete and get good results.

Re: Rhubarb beer

Aye sorry, I've lost my notes as I did this one before I started taking more detailed notes. I used James Morton's Blonde Bombshell as a base: 20L batch 81.6% or 4kg pale malt (He says Belgian, I think I used maris otter) 10.2% or 500g wheat malt 8.2% 400g white sugar 20g Tettnang first wort hop 20g...

Re: Floating bits in bottle

Not something I've ever encountered tbh. I always bottle from a bucket with sugar solution mixed in.

Sounds dodgy though and maybe a good idea you're filtering before drinking to be on the safe side.

Re: BIAB Pilsner Recipe

Why not use a California common yeast and leave it indoors at ale temps?

Re: Hop plants for sale

Not too far from me. I'm in Longbenton and have an allotment at the Innisfree. I'll have a word with my cohabitants and get back to you. Probably should start a new thread so apologies... Are there any homebrew clubs around here? I'm not on Facebook and the only one I've seen mentioned is at the Tyn...

Whereabouts in Newcastle are you? I'm considering some for my allotment, just debating the invasiveness

Re: Rhubarb beer

I did a rhubarb and custard blonde a year and a half ago and it turned out tremendous, I'll see if I can dig out the recipe. It was basically a blonde recipe with rhubarb added to the FV, some vanilla pods soaked in bourbon for the 'custard' flavour and a touch of lactose to offset the tartness. Fir...

Re: Magnum hop error

If you used pilsner malt, you could call it 'Magnum Pi..lsner' and the amazing name will distract you from the bland taste

Re: A very bitter bitter!
Brewing another 50 litres of non-bitter, bitter, seems sensible but that is a lot of brown beer that I will have on my hands!!! .
You might not need that much to affect the taste, unless it's really that bitter. If it was me, I'd do an extract/kit batch and try varying ...

Alternatively, you still have time to brew between now and July. You could make a low bitterness brew and try blending...

Re: A very bitter bitter!

In my experience, the bitterness doesn't fade with age, just the aroma. Plus it's quite low ABV so aging might not be the best option. Are you kegging it and force carbonating? You could take a few small samples and add stuff to it to see what works best. Then if you're going with adding fermentable...

Re: Grainfather up scale
Hi all! I have a grain father and love the quality of the beer I'm brewing, but I would like to increase the capacity of the beer I make. I tried increasing the grain on the last brew I did to concentrate the wort, then diluting to the correct OG, but only got 33l of beer. I know you ...
Ok so I might have killed this thread with my suggestion of modifying the pipework? Re: Basic fermentation cupboard
Hi there I'm thinking about building a basic fermentation cupboard in my garage for fermentation and also priming post-bottling. I am not worried about an ability to cool at this stage, it's not that warm up here in the far North, I don't make lager and ain't worried about crash ...
