Re: clearing beer
Thats pretty much all I am interested to be honest, I guess the Americans have been more vocal about it and they are the books that get adopted as Bibles, they are easily accessible without trawling through countless research papers. In one. =D> But to be fair, they are now at the leading edge of r...

Re: clearing beer
Is the clarity what you want? Calcium won't deal with any lack of body. Better to look at the grain bill and mash temp.

Re: clearing beer
Even Lagers benefit from higher levels. I'm reliably informed by a member of this forum who has actually visited Czech Lager brewers that they add a lot of calcium. You would have to start with a lot of calcium to have levels over 200ppm in the final Beer, is that what he means? Water over here is n...

Re: clearing beer
Typically they complain about "minerality", I don't what that is or means. As a result they "recommend" 50ppm of Calcium. Calcium is arguably the most important factor in mash chemistry, along with alkalinity. What is not taken into account is the amount of calcium that is lost in the mash. Recently...

Re: Reinventing the "airlock"
Superb effort. I think you may just have cracked that. Is it in effect the same as a Burton Union system, albeit just one brewing vessel?

Have you asked him about cutting one down?Rankin_leigh wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 9:19 pmMy first choice had been lardy/brewbuilders conical. But on checking the measurements the legs make it about an inch or 2 too big for my unit.

Re: How to add sugar to the boil
Might be easier & safer to stir it into the fermenter. When you done air in. Easy test to make sure it is dissolved. Whirpool the wort, once it calms, tap the center of the vessel with your paddle/spoon. If it feels gritty, not quite fully dissolved. Did you mean fermenter? The sugar won't be steri...

Re: Fridge Advice
Have you thought of just getting a Fridge from Freecycle. There's always someone prepared to give it away rather than take it down the dump. That way you may find one that is designed to your needs. I prefer my Beers at cellar temps but some would say leaving the fridge at top temp say 7-8c wouldn't...

Re: Keezer nearly finished what beer line cleaner should I get?
Pretty much as you surmise. I remove the disconnect from the Beer line and push it into the 3 way. You could make it 4 by adding a two way to it. 3 litres is enough PBLC. You just want enough to sit in the lines to do their thing. Pull through a bit more, let it do its thing, then pull through a li...
