Re: Belgian Kriek - Cherry Concentrate

did the brewferm kit 18 months ago, and it's still changing. I think it's getting better - by that I mean less acidic and a bit more complex. SWAMBO isn't convinced and says it's still not as good as "proper" Kreik. oh well! I think the main issue is that it still tastes a tad synthetic, so I guess ...

Re: will a 24" bag fit a 50l pot?

Re-measured the pot and its actually 40cm internally, nearer 41 over the lip. Never mind, I have a very large and roomy bag for the hop spider!!

Re: will a 24" bag fit a 50l pot?

ok, so bought a 24"x24" bag, and guess what? it doesn't fit. whilst this is mainly because it's actually 23x24 so too small, I probably actually needed 26x 24. Ended up with the 100 liter bag from malt Miller and fits nicely. with a lot less slack than you'd imagine!

Re: Connectors - Cam & Groove, Tri Clamp or other?

Obviously purchase made - however to add 2p and based on nearly 30 years practical experience. In the Chemicals industry, cam locks are widely used (typically 2-4") for general liquid transfers, rarely for gas where connectable jointed hoses are typically replaced by flanged joints. However in pharm...

will a 24" bag fit a 50l pot?

Evening Brewers,

looking to start BIAB. looking at the 50l pots, they are all 400mm diameter. Most of the bags around that size are 24" x24" which by my cakes is an exact fit - or is it too tight? Should I go for a 72 litre bag?

Re: Sweetening Bitter?

Cheers Wd. When you say mash higher, I assume you at a higher temp? I've done a bit of tweaking in the recent past steeping crystal and then using the wort to boil up some hops - result was really good (hoppy copper upgrade) - maybe I'll try this again as being my first steep/ boil, I wasn't sure wh...

Sweetening Bitter?

Ok, so I've done a dozen or so kits in the last year, everything from single tins, double tins, Ditches stout and even knocked out some very drinkable TC. Haven't had a bad one yet, so I must be doing something right - but when I compare my brews to my favourite commercial offerings (Purity UBU, St ...

Upping the ante!

Looking to improve a kit. Here's the plan for something 4.5-5.5%, suitably hoppy with good aroma; Milestone IPA (Well, its LME at least!) 500g medium DME boiled in 2 litres water and once dissolved, start the clock; 30g Galaxy (12%) at 20 mins 20g Cascade (5.5%) at 10mins 20g Galaxy (12%) at 5 mins ...

Pimp a Milestone IPA kit

Landed one of these two can kits in a lakeland sale - too good to resist. The reviews suggest it's at the limp end of the IPA kits available, so to me it's an ideal candidate for pimping. I'm game for hop teas, boils, dry hopping etc. I have dextrose, light and medium DME to hand (can easily get dar...

Re: When to dry hop a kit?

Ok, so 2+1 it is then. The brew is still bubbling nicely afetr 8 days (@24 degC constant temp), so another 2 weeks or so feels not unreasonable. Try anything once!

When to dry hop a kit?

I normally leave my brew for 2 weeks in the primary. My current brew - Craft Series IPA - requires dry hopping after 7 days out of an advised 10 day ferment. This would give three days on the hops. Do I hop after their 7 days because that suits the condition of the part fermented wort/yeast, or afte...

Festival Premium Golden Stag, made as per instructions and FV @ 23-24degC throughout OG 1043 Day 7 1020 Day 8 1016 Day 10 1015 From all the posts, I know that this can be a slow burner and that the 5+5 day in the instructions is not expected to be anywhere near the mark, so I had assumed 10-11 days ...
