Swapping White Sugar for Golden syrup
When swapping out White Granulated Sugar for Golden Syrup in a recipe; is it a 1:1 swap out? Does 245g of white sugar = 245g of Golden Syrup ?

Re: Yeast starter questions: Wyeast 1332 Northwest Ale
09:30 this morning I smacked the Wyeast pack and put in fermentation fridge at 21 degrees, by this afternoon it had swelled nicely. IMG_3579.jpg So 15 hours ahead of brew day start I have made a 2 litre batch; cooled to 21 degrees and pitched the MFG 27 Jan 2015 into the 5L plastic container. EVERYT...

Re: Shaken, not Strirred
I did not see an answer to this question: Hi yeast whisperer, do you only shake the starter once in the 12-18 hours?

Re: Yeast starter questions: Wyeast 1332 Northwest Ale
OK you have convinced me to go Shaken not Stirred. I smacked the Wyeast 1332 (MFG 27 Jan) this morning and put into my empty Brew Fridge at a temp of 21 degrees. I 'm planning to use a 5L empty mineral water bottle that I have swilled with StarSan. The questions remains; what size should I make my s...

Re: Gales Best Bitter revival
If you can find out HOW they get the 37 EBC colour that would be great. I got some Dark Crystal yesterday as boosting the black malt impacted flavour too muchGoulders wrote:I'm brewing with him on Tuesday so I will ask him

Re: Gales Best Bitter revival
HSB is my favourite beer and since starting brewing 5 months ago I have brewed 6 batches. I live 5 miles from the original brewery; I have done a brewery tour of the Fullers Brewery in January and last night did a tour of Irving Brewery in Portsmouth run by Malcolm Irving QC and brewer at Gales Ales...

Re: First Braumeister brew day water question.
Also worth just stiring the top couple of inches of the grain when it is resting on the stirrups to stop the water vanishing down the hole in the middle of the grain bed...

My first Braumeister Brew Day
So my shiny new BM 20L had arrived; I had flushed it all through with warm water and was ready to go. Now rather than mess around with a new recipe I wanted to try a slight refinement on a brew I have done 3 times before - Gale's HSB - I call it "Hollybank". Here's my Braumeister 20 litre set up wit...

Re: AG #49 Butser Bitter
Quick question on your mash schedule:
Mash in 67C with 30L
75 Min @ 67C
10 Min @ 78C
Sparge with 10L : 78C
That seems much higher than the Spiegel stepped Mash schedules and wondered why you had gone for this and what the result was like?

Does priming sugar boost ABV?
When I started brewing (all of 4 months ago) the coopers kit had an ABV calculation in the booklet like this: (Starting Gravity -Final Gravity / 7.46) + 0.5 It added 0.5% ABV for the Carbonation (sugar) Drop that I added to each bottle. Now since going All Grain I batch prime with 90g of sugar for 2...

Re: Hops storage
Freezer compartment it the best whether they have been opened or not. Ideally it is best to minimize the exposure to Oxygen so a vacuum sealer is a wonderful accessory to have. Cheers Any recommendations on Vacuum Sealers; a quick search on eBay turned up this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm//260833634592
