Re: Shrond for back of element
I used one of these: http://www.screwfix.com/p/adaptable-box-4-x-4-x-2/19806 As Fil says, a Qmax made the right hole in the back, and I made a couple more for a Neutrik connector and indicator light for my HLT (soz - plaggy, not shiny!): http://i1161.photobucket.com/albums/q520/airymary1/HLT.jpg I u...

Re: 50l Brewery Build
Hi Kyle Another thought on re-using your coolbox for post-boil cooling is to use it like a CFC. Roughly, that would involve: Placing the coolbox between boiler and FV Placing the copper coil in the coolbox Connecting the coil to the boiler, and into the back of a ball valve, bulkhead connector or si...

Re: Solar pump question.
Hi Kyle Like your idea of using a coolbox as an ice water reservoir for your chiller. Some thoughts ocurred: A submersible, garden pond type pump would be a cheaper option A coolbox mashtun is not being used by the time you reach the cooling process - it could do double duty? I would keep at couple ...

Re: Solar pump question.
The flow isn't all that important as long as it can match the run off speed from the mash tun but a fair few people agree to buy more than one so I'll look into that. I got a Solar type pump for just that job. (I blamed repeated emptying of the run-off bucket for giving me a case of tennis elbow!)....

I have one of those barrels, pressed into service as FV. I'd say it's 45 litres, maybe 50 to the brim.Fil wrote:

http://www.screwfix.com/p/brass-c-x-c-couplings-15mm-x-8mm/45857 I used these on my homemade IC, gives 8mm comp straight to 15mm comp, works very nicely. Yeh, those are the ones I used on my CFC, not the 10mm ones I linked on the previous page  With the 8mm stop filed-out, they provide the fi...

Spare DC Power Supply
I've intro'd 12v DC Solar type pumps into my brewery recently. My gravity system involved HLT at worktop height, sparging into MT, which output into a run-off vessel (aka 'bucket'!) at floor level. Repeated lifting and emptying of this into the boiler at worktop height was a bit tedious. When I got ...

Re: Hydrometer for ales
Soz this is a bit of a late reply, but only just seen this thread. I too struggle to read the standard combi beer/wine hydrometers - the scale is too wide, so the markings are too close together. Was very pleased to get a beer hydrometer as a pressie (so source unknown, I'm afraid). Since then, I ca...

Re: catering portal france
Looking through the thread it seems that nobody has actually imported any shiny from China. Is this correct? I have been browsing various chinese suppliers and plan to try and bring in 2 VERY BIG stockpots. The price quoted, for 1.2mm wall thickness pots seems reasonable and they've quoted a shippi...

Re: Dalex tap
Don't think so, its 3/4 BSP so would suit something like this. And it should be able to accomodate a standard sparkler, never tried it so not really sure! I believe a drum tap is also 3/4 bsp. I've certainly used female threaded plumbing fittings of that size on the back of a MT drum tap (to attach...

I did think of getting a soda stream bottle as I have an adaptor but I can't find any local stockists. My local Tesco has them in stock! Might be worth looking in a Tesco near you. Strangebrew - are you sure your adaptor will work? Sodastream changed their cylinders a year or so ago. Only the new o...

Re: Element Threads
Hi Neil Can't answer your question about the 19/16" and M40 x 1.5 threads being the same, but, like you, I've often seen those thread sizes quoted for elements and lock nuts. What I can say is that I've used slimline M40 lock nuts successfully (I rejected the KM8 bearing nuts as too 'clunky'). I pos...

Re: Cask to Beer Engine - pressure
Hi Jim I don't use casks - I have a corny type keg, but mostly dispense from PBs, adapted to function as kegs, with 3 or 4 psi going into them from a cylinder (straight through - no demand valve). My BE drips prodigiously! BUT I stop the problem by putting a shut-off valve between the 3/8 beer line ...

Re: Sodastream gas & Sankey Coupler
Cheers Barneey. My gauge works fine on a setup for corny type kegs, but doesn't get round the problem you highlight of the one-way gas valve on a Sankey coupler. Maybe it needs a dedicated coupler, with gas valve removed, gauge fitted to the gas side of the coupler, and a stop on the beer 'out'? Chris
